I think I'll join both this year just because I spent the first half of last year in the QM (and I was a member) but spent the second half in the GU and although I didn't really have a problem getting in, they always asked that someone in the group was a GU member. Once I was with four other girls and none of us had a GU card so we had to wait outside for a while until a few other people we knew came along. Actually once I was going into the GU to meet people by myself and I showed the guy on the door my QM card (lol) I think he just thought I was a confused little drunk girl because he just patted me on the shoulder and told me to go ahead.

I was once asked if I had a QM card instead and the bouncer said that'll do! It was earlier on in the evening and I was only going in to use the ATM so I don't know if that had any bearing on it! I've been in a group where none of us have had a card and we've been allowed in.
Weird. It was just annoying when we got there and realised no one had a card - a couple of them were members but the card was in a different purse or something.

On another note, Cheesey on Friday? See you there  I've not properly been since...January?

Of course. Some day I'll have to speak to you sober...I imagine I don't make a good first impression when drunk. :o: (I am such a ridiculous lightweight now that I hardly drank over the summer.)

Lol! I was pretty drunk too. It's fine :awesome:

I was just all :h: at meeting another fellow Tyrone girl :rave: I expected you to be from Belfast or somewhere.
I know it happened ages ago, but what went down at the QMU at the end of FW with the GUU crowd? I've heard rumours but no definite facts. :s-smilie:

By about half ten half of them had been chucked out. I think by midnight they'd all been chucked and there were several life bans issued. Basically they were urinating and throwing up all over Qudos. This is what I've heard from a QM board member, let's just say he was less than impressed.
Anyone see the copy of the QM paper during freshers that was hurriedly recalled as someone had texted something less than pleasant on for the back page?

I'm intrigued, what did it say?

I don't know, that's why I was wondering. One of my "friends" (someone I met at Freshers and then promptly forgot the name of!) told me about it - apparently it was just really rude and had somehow slipped through the vetting process. And they only realised after distributing a few copies, but then had to get re-printed. This was on Thurs or Fri of last week.
Oooh, I must text one of my friends and see. He's on the board though, doesn't do anything with QMunicate.

I was chucked out of the GUU last night, for no reason. Apparently I was seen with a pint of beer, even though I had not drunk anything at the GUU. At all. I did have a few ciders in the flat before I came but I knew that I wasn't able to drink in the unions because I'm not 18 and didn't reallly want to take the risk. So the bald bouncer guy took me upstairs, took my freshers pass away from me, and they jotted down my student number and I was asked to leave and told that I wouldn't get back in. It kinda sucks, since I know for sure that I never touched a drop of alcohol when I was in the building. And I also seemed to get the idea that I was banned until I'm 18, but I have no idea where I got this from. Is this true? I just think it's kind of unfair if I won't be able to go to the unions because of a security guy that's quite clearly got me mixed up with someone else.
That's rubbish. I don't know how people can come to uni when they're still 17. It would drive me mad having a drama trying to get into places. How long until your birthday?

I don't know what their policies are on people under 18 but I was friends with a girl who was 17 until the end of October and she never had a problem in the unions - just in town.
I was thrown out of the GUU last year and handed a ban, I was actually guilty though but it was still a bit galling. It is only until you're 18 because you don't need to be a member to get in if you're 18. You could contact the president to fight your case, though, 'cos the Unions are the main nightlife 'til you turn 18. Join the QM, though, you'll be fine there.

EDIT: The place was swarming with polis last night- dog branch and all sorts were hanging around- so they may just have been exceptionally cautious and you got caught up.

My birthday's at the end of November, not for a while. I didn't have a problem getting into the union, just with the security guy who claimed i was drinking a pint when I honestly wasn't.

Bit of a waste of a year at uni, really. I don't know why they don't take a gap year.
