Perfectly honestly, I can't think of a single reason that anybody would choose Cale over Glasgow. Genuinely, not one.

Agreed, would be absolutely bemused.

The people are "real" here, some lecturers are snobbish, a bit, perhaps, but they usually are top of their field or there abouts

Glasgow has 2 student unions. Caldedonian has none.

Hi all, prospective student here...
really need advice on which uni to choose..
I have applied for accounting, got an unconditional from Cale.Uni and conditional at Glasgow uni- BB.
I have been asing other students which uni they recommend. most say that Cale is much friendlier and the people are 'real', they also said how the majority of students and lecturers at Glasgow are 'snobs' (lol)

Which uni would you recommend for Accounting and also just in general really..?

Thanks.x

I suggest you ask people who don't despise you.

Honestly, 'real' people. I've never heard more pish.
Tommy got the SRC presidency :h:
I like Tommy, helped me out with my dissertation. How the hell the guy for VP comms got in is beyond me. He can't string a coherent sentence together.

I'm attempting to start up a new club/society, about professional wrestling :P
I'm sure there's gotta be some form of wrestling fan at Glasgow Uni, and I figure that there should be a group that'll allow us to talk about wrestling, the history from the beginning to recent, the current happenings in the business etc.

So, if anyones interested PM me
Need atleast six members to be officially recognised by the SRC.

Why don't you start a Turkish Wrestling society? I'm sure that might attract a bit of attention.

Plus there's nothing more fun than wrestling half naked with another man lubricated in olive oil.

Honestly, I'd love it if there were a Yağlı Güreş society. :rofl2:
FyreFight
Yeah, he strikes me as a massive prick.

I know him :o: He isn't.

Does anyone know where/when the GUU election results are out?
FyreFight
Tommy or Luke? Tommy seemed like a really nice bloke.

Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about Tommy.
I don't know Luke so I won't pass judgement.

I heard they were out already (one of my friends told me that another knew that she'd become PSM and as a result was a tad merry at Hive last night :p:)

Really? I haven't been into uni today, and there's nothing online about it yet. I only wanted to know because a guy in my class was running for president.

Well, that was what she said... I didn't actually vote; were they using an alternative vote type of idea like the SRC? 'Cos I suppose that would make it odd to know the results by last night, as it's comparatively complicated to calculate.

Vaguely know the girl who got PSM, and shes posted like five facebook statuses about winning, so they do definitely know.
It's good that all these people got in for their credentials and not instead of giving out drumsticks.
I was campaigning a bit for my friend (she was running for charities officer so not a massive position but still...) and I had so much fun. It's really cool just to chat to people and it's much more fun giving out leaflets than it is receiving them. There are some bloody rude students at the same time too!

I was pleased about most of the results. It was pretty nail biting sometimes. Especially over the VP L&D position where it went to the 4th stage of voting.

I'm thinking of going for General Rep next autumn and then standing for Arts Convener in March but we shall see

Hey I'm just quoting you to get your attention!!

I just wanted to ask your opinion of the English Lit course. I'm heading to Glasgow in September to study English Lit and I'm really excited!

What's the course like?
FyreFight
Yeah, he strikes me as a massive prick.

I watched the heckling meeting online, what an idiot. He had notes on his phone, couldn't string a sentence together, and seemed to me like he was high. God knows who voted him in! I was routing for either Andy, the guy from the Guardian or the guy from GUST.
FyreFight
Yeah, I watched it through the GUST website too. He also gave a quote on a SubCity podcast where he slagged off every other candidate for wearing t-shirts. He just comes across as really arrogant.

I really wanted Craig or Andy to get it myself, but SRC Elections are rarely a test of those most qualified to win.

Of course not, it is who has the best sweets and the biggest signs. Which is sad, but I don't think there's anything to be done. The SRC try every year to get more people interested, I think this year they were just happy to have some contested positions.
I have to say that I find the signs etc quite off putting. I voted but to be honest I hated walking past the library etc the last few days, because even when you were in a rush or told them you already voted some of them just wouldn't let you go. I preferred the nicer people, maybe a bit outside the main areas. The ones that didn't just push stuff into your face but asked nicely. Not sure the yelling, shoving etc is the best way to do these elections, everyone I talked to was rather annoyed. Not sure what else could be done though to be honest.

I find pretending to be on the phone is a very effective deterrent against them

Haha, I will try to do that next time, thank you! I know my post sounded somehow judgemental, I just don't believe annoying people is the best way to get someone to vote
