There were 5 new PSMs and 4 of them were girls.

I know one of them pretty well, the rest I don't know at all.

Haha as is pretty obvious, don't know much about the whole thing, apart from its annoying trying to walk past the library during the elections! :P

Hey I'm just quoting you to get your attention!!

I just wanted to ask your opinion of the English Lit course. I'm heading to Glasgow in September to study English Lit and I'm really excited!

What's the course like?

I'm probably not the best person to ask but my experience has been something like this:

First year - module one seemed a bit too easy/general but it's a great introduction and module two is pretty good (writing and the self)

Second year - ideology and literature (module one) was okay - getting a bit more difficult and requiring a lot of extra work to do well. Module two (writing and text) has been utter hell. It's all about literary theory and pretty much nothing else. I find it so dull and difficult to get my head around. The general consensus amongst my friends who study it is something similar but a lot of them are putting up with it to get on to the honours course.

So yeah, I'll be dropping down to History come September.

I have to say that I find the signs etc quite off putting. I voted but to be honest I hated walking past the library etc the last few days, because even when you were in a rush or told them you already voted some of them just wouldn't let you go. I preferred the nicer people, maybe a bit outside the main areas. The ones that didn't just push stuff into your face but asked nicely. Not sure the yelling, shoving etc is the best way to do these elections, everyone I talked to was rather annoyed. Not sure what else could be done though to be honest.

I was always really friendly unless someone was rude to me. I basically just asked people if they were planning to vote and if they were I asked them if they could please vote for my friend. If they wanted to know why, i'd explain to them or otherwise I'd just give them a leaflet. I understand that people would have already been annoyed by being bombarded by leaflets from other candidates but I was being nice and they were rude to me :o: if people said they weren't voting I just let them go. It's the ones who were like 'piss off' that made me angry.
Having a lot of class off-campus this year means I managed to avoid the leaflet/sweets bombardment.

We always have games where the aim is to get from University Avenue up the library hill without getting harassed by anyone. You can avoid them by going round the other way, but that's more trouble than it's worth really.

I didn't want to say that you were one of the annoying people, I just said a lot of them are. I get that you need advertisements etc but if I say nicely "No thank you, I am in a rush to get to my lecture/have already voted" I somehow expect people to leave me alone. Some people were quite nice though and I had a few chats with them but some were just weird. It's rude though people would tell you to piss off! :eek3:

About the English Lit thing, I am with you. I found first year quite good, I needed the slow introduction as I had English as a foreign language at high school, so it was way different. Quite liked semester 2, the writing and self.
This year it's just so weird and boring, I like that all lectures on one book are in the same week, so quite like the organisation, but think a lot of the lectures are just too far away from what we are actually talking about. Like the lady who, again, talked about sperm on canvas this week.
I don't know anyone doing English in Honours so I have no idea whether it's becoming better or not.
I don't want to put you off at all, sweetnesspink, I really enjoyed first year. And maybe I am just not cut out for all the literary theories etc. Some courses in year 3 and 4 do look really interesting though!

Oh and TheOneWho, I don;t think walking the other way the whole time would be worth it either. It's only a few days after all and I just ignored them if they were too annoying and wouldn't let me go after several no thank yous. Just don't think that's the best way to get people to vote
I don't think it's the best way to get people to vote either, but they have enough trouble getting anyone to vote as it is.
Hmm. I really like literary theory so hopefully I'll really enjoy it! Literary theory (of drama) was my favourite class on my first degree which is what inspired my to apply for English Lit.

Hopefully it'll be good!
Less than 2 months until sweet, sweet summertime.
Does anyone know the names of any people who won positions in the GUU elections? I need to write an article for the Guardian about it by tomorrow evening, but the GUU haven't gotten back to me in days and their website is bloody awful for being kept up to date. I couldn't see any notices when I went into the GUU the other day, either. As it is, I only know people who won PSM places. Total pain in the arse.

If anyone knows the name of someone who won their candidacy please do let me know.

You write for the guardian? Excellent article about those prices in the fraser building. I've stopped going to that place (well spending money in it) and I don't know how other students can afford to!

I didn't know you wrote for the Guardian. You learn something new everyday.
Anyway, if you go to the GUU homepage on Facebook - down the left hand side you'll find Officers, which has been updated, showing the new BoM.

(I hope this isn't too late...)

Hey guys

I am visiting Glasgow in early april for 5 days and except for the afternoon visit on 7 th april there is nothing particular on my schedule. Can anybody of you give any advice on what I and 4 four friends, who are coming with me, HAVE TO do while in glasgow? Any certain bars or clubs that have to be seen? Or anyone any other idea how to spend the days?

Thanks a lot in advance
Speaking of Glasgow Guardian, has anyone else seen this yet?
