My flight is on the 9th. I'm going with my mum (she's staying for 2 days to help me move in) and we're going to buy all the basic stuff (I live abroad so I have to by pretty much everything). How many plates/pots/pans should I buy? If there's 5 of us in a flat, it'll be weird for us all to have 2 pots each...

When I was at uni before, there were 8 girls in a flat and we had about a million pots between us! I'd say think about what you like to cook and what sort of pan/pot you need for that... I can manage on about 3. As for crockery, I have 2 of each (dinner plates, bowls, small plates). hope this helps you.

I received my Welcome Pack yesterday and the websurf email today!

I have a few questions though;

- I did the pre-registration bt it said that I did not yet have to add my course, so I didn't. When about would I have to do this? [...]

As said before, you can choose your courses when you meet your adviser but I would recommend to choose them before you go. Firstly, sitting at home an looking for courses is much more comfortable. You can speak to friends, family and so on. Secondly, you will not have to wait too long when being there. I had to wait 45 minutes because he thought I had not chosen my courses. Furthermore, it's your degree and it makes sense to choose courses by yourself and telling him/her why you would like to pick up a particular course.

If you wait until he/she says to you what is best for you, then you will end up with his/her choices.

It's not too late ... so study the course catalogue and tell him/her what YOU want to pick up.

Well I applied for Hpol and I would like to add Spanish as my third course. The only thing is, when I try to add a course, there are some things that I don't understand...and it would seem as though Hpol counts as only one subject.

You seem like someone who'd be able to help, if you don't mind of course would you please help me with the course choice on websurf? I'm a bit confused by it. How many credits should I have altogether? And I'm a fresher, so I'm looking for level 1 courses, right? :p:
Sorry, I realise those were probably really stupid questions but I guess it'll take a while to get used to the whole university thing :p:

You'll need 120 credits althogether. Shouldn't be hard since first year courses generally only have enough courses for 40 anyway. Just pick 40 credits in 3 subjects and you'll be fine, although some courses might like/force you to take a certain combination of stuff.

You need 120 credits made up of Level 1 courses. These can usually be made up of any combination of subjects as long as there is no timetable clash. I wouldn't recommend having a timetable of lectures at 9, 10 and 11am unless absolutely necessary.
All this talk of the restructure is a bit negative. I hope it doesn't affect my experience as a new student.

Edit! I don't mean the negative chat will affect my experience, I mean the restructure itself!

Thank you! how do I know when the lectures are? Does it tell you in the course catalogue?

What are you studying? I know the law school has level 1 & 2 and level 3 & 4 timetables on its home page.

I doubt it will really impact on students that much.

Yes, it should give a time in the course catalogue. Obviously if the class is only on at one time and you really want/need to do it then go for it. I just know from experience that trying to get from one side of campus to another isn't very fun.

French and Spanish, I wanted to do Law as a third subject in the hope of maybe doing that at Honours but I don't think I can :frown:

Aah, I see. Thanks for the advice, I can see me being the idiot that has to run from one place to the other...if you're a Friends fan I'm talking like when Ross has to teach the advanced class :p:

Doubt it tbh, French and Spanish will be good though, know a few people studying those.

Haha, that is pretty much what it is like! It doesn't take that long to walk from one side to the other, but at the change of lectures a lot of people are about and so moving is slowed right down. I was unlucky enough to have this happen to me in both first and second year! In first year I changed lecture times, and in second year I changed course instead.

Where can one see the time table?

It'll be in the course catalogue.
So according to my calculations, I have 18 hours per week.

That's what i had in 2 days at school
Wait, I actually think I have 13 hours per week.

This may be a stupid question, but:

Under Politics 1 A, it says:

Tutorials: Mondays 10-11 am, 11-12 noon, 12-1 pm, 1-2 pm, 2-3 pm, 3-4 pm

Does that mean that I have one hour of Tutorial (with the choice of what time) or does it mean I have 6 hours Tutorial on Mondays?
You will have one tutorial lasting one hour. Whether or not you get a choice in that depends on the department, I'm not sure how politics deal with it. Some let you choose, some just put you in one.
