haha. I know, but I have a feeling this year will make me more tolerant. If nothing else, I'll stick to tea. Speaking of tea, btw, I'm really surprised what a lousy selection of tea you can find in Glasgow. With the UK being the tea capital of the world or something like that, I had this idea that I would find lots of different teas, but all I can find are basically Tetley's and the classic Earl Grey etc. It makes me sad.

Might be worth trying Waitrose. No idea what their selection is like, but since they are quite posh they might offer more than your standard supermarket.

Otherwise, Brewhaha is good, or go to Whittards on Buchanan St. If you can't find what you want in their then I think you might have to settle for the more basic types.

Aye I can imagine  unlike in Britain where you can't split the main parties with a fag paper /stops short of rant.

Info They even do a student discount. Tea seems like a world I've yet to visit, maybe this year I'll try and be more cultured...

Lol. I've heard that it's like that in the UK. I can imagine it's pretty frustrating to have it like that.

Omg, that place seems cool. I will definitely pay a visit. I hope it won't be too expensive (I hope it'll be cheap). There's also that tea shop on Otago Lane that's pretty cool. There you will definitely find teas you've never had before (I didn't know a single one on their menu and ended up with this South American Indian tea that tasted like cigarette smoke, it was interesting).

I've been to Waitrose and from what I can remember, they did have a few interesting ones but it's not a vast selection. I'll check that store out as well. I think I've been in there before and from what I can remember, they had a lot of cool stuff there. However, no matter how much I search, I can't seem to find the best tea in the universe:

*sadness*
Can you not get in on the internet?

Tchai-Ovna is nice, but a bit strange. It always seems that everyone is high, and they probably are to be honest.

13th.

Counting the days.

Same, I get really annoyed if I buy a £140 zone card for uni and it doesn't come straight from my student loan.

Not that my loan even covers near that amount. But whatever I'm not bitter :emo:

EDIT: oh btw maybe try Peckhams on Byres Rd for tea, some nice beers in there too.
It's really difficult and I can only get it from the States it seems with like a bazillion pounds in shipping :frown:

lol that's probably a fair assumption but I like it. It's strange in a good way. But I haven't tried too many of their teas, only the one.

Mines is ~£200 for 10 weeks, my first loan installment is (a double) £120, better than nothing but still :mute: Lucky this year that I'm flogging my books, earning a decent-ish wedge and have nice relatives with no other kids to spoil (apart from my wee sister), otherwise I'd be out of Uni and on the bread line.

It's unbelievable that car pooling would be cheaper than taking public transport, and it's unbelievable there is no discount for students (that 15-25 railcard doesnt work for zone cards does it?).

Wedge = Wage?

That would annoy me much more if I had learned to drive  It is shocking though, you don't get a discount nah.

And nah wedge= bit of cash. I'm on a poor wage, but have worked like a dog the past couple of weeks so have a wee bit coming my way to tide me over.

That'd only work if you managed to find someone who had the same timetable as you and who lived close enough to you to drive up together, and if you could get a space. None of my friends bothered driving up to uni, we all just got on the train.

My zonecard cost £140 (or whatever eight zones is now) for four weeks. Still cheaper than living out, but so expensive.
HEY! Didn't know where to ask so thought I'd give this a try. Got an accommodation welcome email a few days ago (for Murano) and it says on arrival to bring some form of ID and contract papers, but I'm not sure what these papers are? Any ideas?

Thanks to grade-inflation and accepting far too many students this year Glasgow now requires straight As for all arts and social sciences. Just two years ago when I started it was ABBB but there's not a chance in hell I'd get in through UCAS if I applied this year. Would anyone else here?

Last year this was pretty much completely ignored since freshers helpers were giving out keys. I think I vaguely flashed my contract and they handed me over the keys.

Yeah, I found that out a couple of days ago- and posted on here, infact. Do keep up  Science is up to AAAB too.

I got AABBC at first sitting, so I might've got a conditional. I ended up with AAABBB, so they'd probably still have taken me. Point is, those grades were probably enough to put me top 5% of my year. Other schools had 40% of their kids getting AAAAB or better.

Aye, but still, 3 hours of lectures! After two I'm well and truly in "can't be arsed" mode and tend to faff around. 4 hours of lectures on a Tuesday this year is going to be a killer, especially seeing as the more important lecture is the last two hours... plenty of coffee being consumed methinks...

Still, sounds pretty good and you can have plenty late nights, I'm not trying to run you down, honest :top:

I'm teaching two classes back to back, have an office hour and then marking every Monday, so I'm looking at six hours solid.

In other words, enough of your moaning. You bunch of failed academics you.
Geezo at the AAAA Highers...

I remember when I used to spend £172 for 10 weeks with my zone card and it was so damn expensive.
Now that I've moved out and live right next to the uni I wish I had done it much earlier (i.e at the beginning of first year instead of second.)

In the Netherlands students get free public transport across the whole country which makes so much sense. I hate when I see old people getting on the bus and then putting their OAP card and getting something for free when we have to pay bloody £3.75 for an all day.

the zone card is an absolute rip off.
my student loan isn't even enough to cover it
also i got AAAAB at first sitting so i probably would have been ok
in retrospect though i'd rather have been offered a conditional than an unconditional because i switched off when i got my offer and never really switched back on until last year (i ended up getting BC in Info Systems and Maths advanced higher and B in Geography higher, considering I got an A in the prelims for all of them I'm still disappointed with those results)

Apologies for that PM I sent (was it last week?). Just needed a whinge :p: I just get a bit frustrated at these people who seem to think that attending a "top ten" uni will suddenly have everyone creaming all over them.

Anyhoo can anyone suggestion some good music shops I can visit in Glasgow? I know a couple independent shops but would just like to hear your suggestions. Nothing I like more than spending the day in music and book shops plus a couple of museums and I know Glasgow will be an excellent place for this :yep:

Thanks all :hat2:

Fopp (Byres Road) is possibly a bit mainstream for you, but I love spending ages in there as the stuff they've got playing is great and there's just an all-round nice ambiance
And also on Byres Road is the Oxfam music shop, which can yield some gems sometimes.

From what they've written I understand that I should have the contract prior to arriving there, which doesn't make any sense, cause they haven't sent anything like that.
