Well I'm sorry that you think I'm doing the wrong thing but it's much better than me taking the book out/home for more than the four/24 hour limit.

Sorry you couldn't find the book you were looking for. I don't really see how you could have been in agony looking for it!
I just don't get why you do what you do.

I needed it for my Comp Lit essay which was due in four or five days. The vast majority of articles about Harry Potter in academic journals are just elaborate rants on subjects that have nothing to do with the series so I really needed to find something that would at least loosely tie in with what my essay was about to put in my bibliography.

But you can just take two books, go to the cafe or to one of the other floors and come back downstairs for more when you've finished with them, it's not like the library's that massive. I've spent three days in agony hunting down for Critical Perspectives on Harry Potter because despite the fact that the website said it was on the shelf, every time I looked for it, it wasn't there. In the end I turned to the books from the main section for both my essays and found some really interesting things tucked away in corners were most people couldn't be bothered to look.

3 days in agony? :toofunny:

Did you not look at the recently returned bit or ask at the desk?

As far as I know it, no. You sign up for the register and when they find somebody who's a match, they call you in to donate. But the procedure is virtually painless and you get back into your normal routine in about 2 or 3 days at most. On the other hand it's a really small price to pay to save somebody's life.

I want to try to register (I dunno if I'll be able since I've had all kinds of health issues recently and I'm only in Britain during the term) and I definitely want to help out so I'm going to training session thing.

That's right, it's not for donation after death. At the clinics you give a saliva sample and you're on the register. If you are a match, you get the chance to save someone with leukamia's life life by donating. It's stem cells that you donate. Usually the donation process is very similar to giving blood. Visit our Facebook page for info on our next clinic. http://tiny.cc/gkb2z

I feel your pain re:Critical Perspectives. It was one of three books I identified which looked any good, but I found none of them in the library. My bibliography is pitiful, I was very much one of the ones who couldn't be bothered to look. Harry Potter's just not suitable for academic study imo :s-smilie:

Are you in first year? Demand for books is crazy then; all the keen beans get in there and take them out months in advance, you just have to search for the book well in advance to make sure you get the chance to have a look at it.

When I was reading the 4 hour books in short loan, there was still over a week until my essay was due so people had either read them already or would be able to get them in there in the last few days if they needed.

Anyone doing Philosophy 1K know when the exam is?
Reply 1910
I don't think the timetable's actually up, but I know when my history one is, they announced it in today's lecture but I missed philosophy so I don't know if it's been announced.
this happens every semester that the timetable is up late.

i need the timetable to motivate myself for the exams lol, its the only way that the message sinks in that i have exams in a month. then i make a pretty spreadsheet of my exams to give me extra motivation, and stick that sheet on my wall, then play some cod.

I take it you're doing comparative lit 1A? I think having a 'lesser' book isn't a bad idea. They throw one in every year I think. It'll teach you that you can dissect any given book the same way, and also at times that you can find something in a book that really isn't there. For level 2 they study 'Like Water for Chocolate' a Mexican Hollyoaks style book, which is on par with Harry Potter for the shock factor but I still think it's a good idea, plus it's easier to read.

I'd checked five minutes or so ago and was giving up hope, cheers :top:

Nice exam timetable for me, Thursday 9th and then following Tuesday

Urgh bloody hell, exam on wed, sat and the fri 17th :frown: i was planning on heading home early if possible...

I am, yeah. It's an easy one to write about for sure, especially with bloody Zarathustra in there too. Pity I already used it in my essay.
