Acomb house, Whitworth Park Manchester halls

Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has stayed in Whitworth Park halls at uom, particularly Acomb house.
Is it as bad as some of the reviews say, in terms of dead social aspect, dirty and old etc. I didn't apply there and I received an accom offer really late so I guess it was one of the leftover ones.

It’s not as bad as they say. I personally preferred it to my Fallowfield hall (which was much harder to make friends in and had a terrible cockroach problem). The flats aren’t that bad with a decent living space and consist of 8-9 people so you’re very likely to get along well with at least a couple of them.

I lived in Whitworth Park for my second year. I was in Thorncliffe house, which is regarded as the best one for social life but you can make your experience there good whichever house you’re in. Can’t really comment on Acomb specifically as I only went in there once during freshers and was hammered, but I think every house is the same in terms of flats and facilities.

Not sure if it’s still open, but the grove bar next to thorncliffe is great for meeting others if you’re new and don’t know anyone yet. Whitworth was buzzing with flat parties for the first few weeks of the year, then died down completely but you’ll probably have met loads of people to go out with etc by then so it should be fine. I recommend getting yourself out there early on before people settle into their groups, if you’re worried about dead social life.

None of UoM halls are really that immaculate or impressive on the eye, but I honestly do believe Whitworth is one of the better halls. Plus its right next to campus so you can roll out of bed and into lectures without the commute of living in fallow. Mcdonalds opposite is also a bonus. Hope this helps

Hi,
So I got thorncliffe house.
Could you please answer any of these questions?
1. Do all rooms have windows facing the roads?
2. If I have a sink in my room will I also have a mirror?
3. Is the gym free to use?
