University of Kent - Canterbury, Law School (14th UK)

Just thought I would like to offer some help to people who are looking into studying Law at University level or looking to move. I have been at the University of Kent, in Canterbury now for 1 month. I am studying for my LLB as I want to become a Lawyer.
During my Gap year, I went to many solicitor firms in London and asked strict questions. As I received unconditional offers from Durham, Exeter and Kent. I asked which one they would say I should go for. They all told me they are all VERY! good law schools, they ALL feature in the UK's top 20 LAW SCHOOLS. One firm told me to avoid Exeter Law School, as it is what he said flooded. The competition at Exeter Law School is so high it seriously effects your job opportunities when you leave. Some told me Durham was slipping in the charts and could not even see Durham Law School in the top 20 in a few years due to the consistent low degree levels that people are leaving from the Law school. Many told me they have started hearing more about Kent Law School, mainly because it is the fastest growing Law School currently in the UK, and I was informed the Queen had only recently given it an award. As Kent Law School lets you shadow Barristers and Lawyers during your three years of your degree. Which I found a big bonus!
Kent Law School has been everything I could have imagined! They keep having parties because it keeps hoping up the legaue tables so it is really nice and friendly!
I recommend it highly! And so do a few selected Law Firms i questioned in London.
MAKE SURE YOU GET GOOD A-LEVELS THOUGH! THEY ARE HIGH HERE, I EVEN DID AN LNAT EXAM.
See you Inside!

Promote your law school on another student forum. ABB isn't considered to be particularly high, compared to the caliber of students here. Coincidentally enough, I replaced Kent with Hull for my UCAS application yesterday.

gutted...

Kent is so under-rated by all the prestigue hunters. I chose to go there over top american uni's, ucl, and kcl, (having 5 A's i had some choices) although not entirely on acadamic standards (did really want to go to a city uni). ABB is fine, just means they get to hand pick from a bigger pool of potential. Kent features quite heavily in MC firms, especially considering the size of their law school compared to the london biggys. no regrets as of yet.

Riggers and Jaymesthorp: you both must be insane to choose Kent over Exeter, Durham, UCL, KCL and top American universities. Fair enough if you have some family or personal reasons, but in terms of job prospects and academic reputation...

Wow.

Are we talking about the same Kent here?

Although you took the LNAT, I doubt you took it as part of the Kent application process, so what's the relevance? (Not that the LNAT is necessarily indicative of a 'good' university)

"Kent features quite heavily in MC firms"
Not at any I've visited.. places like Allen & Overy are still heavily Oxbridge dominated. And yes, there are making an effort to move away from that, but I doubt they are actively looking at Kent Uni..

(but academics aside, my boyfriend goes to Kent, and yes it is a nice campus university with a nice atmosphere, but i'm afraid i can't think of anything better to describe it with than 'nice', so if that is what you are looking for, then go for it)

One more thing, Ive seen plenty of Exeter, Durham, Leicester students (but of course not as many as students from Oxbridge) and even one Nottingham Trent student get a Training Contract at an MC firm but ive not heard any from Kent.

cant be ars'd to fight with you. personally know graduates. plus who actually wants to work in a MC? not i! Weil, Gotshal & Manges, Jones Day or Shearman & Sterling for me...

but fair enough i would have gone to princeton/yale, but it cost way too much for me. much easier staying in uk. (spot the usa trend)

end of the day when they ask why i went to kent with 5A's. "thats where i wanted to go". plus its got the best looking girls in the uk. (maybe i should say that instead  )

Good luck getting into one of those firms from Kent. Don't Princeton/Yale offer fairly substantial scholarships and funding if you need it. If you weren't eligible for that then fair enough, but Princeton and Yale are simply in another league.

You're lying to us, but far far worse, you are lying to yourself. If you are intelligent enough to go to Yale or Princeton then good grief world standards are dropping

I think the person who started this thread is slightly special! (In a needs medical attention sort of way, not thwe gold star at the top of an essay kind of way)

But I am going to Kent this September and it is a strong law school.

I would argue it is as strong as Reading, Leicester and York.

But that aside it has a Temple Society directly sponsored by the Inner and Middle Temple, something that Durham, Kings and LSE all lack. It has recently beated LSE, Leiecester and Birmingham in Mooting competiitons. Proving the student are of a good calibre to say the least.

So before you slate institutions try researching!
