~ Keeping The Owl In Flight ~ A Y12 GYGWatch
My names Owl and welcome to my first ever grow your grades blog.... and just my first blog in general. I'm pretty new to this whole thing so hopefully it won't turn out too badly.
A little background on me: I'm a 16 year old girl who just started year 12 (college). I suffer from an unhealthy amount of procrastination and a concerning lack of confidence.
My favourite subjects are maths and science and i'm hoping to study zoology at university in the future and then go on to become a zoologist researching animals in the wild. This has been my dream for years now so I'm really hoping to get good A levels to reach it.
In addition to A levels, i've also been working at a restaurant/cafe (honestly not sure what you'd call it) for the past three months which i'm hoping to continue working at at the weekend but with all the work i'm expecting at A level... we'll see how it goes 😂. I also really enjoy art (specifically drawing) and pet-wise ya girls got a husky.
English language: 8 + Merit
English literature: 9
German: 9 + Distinction
Religious Education: 8
My college also does an additional extend course for a term and for which I chose Ecology & Conservation
Goals for the year:
•I mean the first and most obvious goal is to grow my grades, keep up with this blog and achieve good AS results
•In addition to this I really need to build my confidence. Maybe speak in lessons or something? Idk. Throughout secondary my confidence dropped and my anxiety increased so here's hoping that I can flip that around at least a little.
•Make some friends - I suppose this only applies to the start of this year but I no longer have my friends in my lessons at college so i've really got to start socialising with people before I drop dead of lonliness.
•Final goal and not really to do with school: I'd love to improve my art - specifically I want to get better at drawing people so I can finally draw my own OCs instead of creating a million picrews.
If you made it this far then congrats and I hope you stick around. I've got no real schedule planned out but it'll probably be weekly updates unless something major happens or I simply wish to talk.
See you next post I guess
Welcome back to my blog folks and to the very first entry. On this week's (or past few weeks i guess) episode of my life, I started college! Let me tell you, it is so much different to secondary school. For starters, I only do three hours of lessons a day?? which honestly still feels kind of wrong. Despite this I'm still somehow already behind on my work. We're supposed to do roughly 15 hours of work outside of lessons per week and I'm barely even doing half of that. It's fun...
I promise you I am studying though! Wouldn't be a great grow your grades if I wasn't. I've had three tests so far (one for each subject) that I've had to study for. I think they went pretty decently? I haven't received my environmental science back yet but I'll update you when I do. For my maths I got a 40/45 which I'm pretty proud of and for my biology I got 28/38 which... could've been better but considering most of my friends did roughly the same on it too I'm not too disappointed. Still, my next bio test is in about 2 weeks (I think-) so here's hoping I do better on that one.
The college itself is amazing. The teachers (or at least my teachers) seems lovely (although it still feels kind of weird to not be referring to them as 'miss' or by their last name). It's also situated in the middle of a city which is pretty cool for meeting my friends and walking round. Speaking of walking, JESUS CHRIST THERE'S SO MUCH WALKING. I'm pretty unfit and used to barely exercising but just going to different buildings for my lessons or going to get lunch means I walk 5km a day absolute minimum (most days are closer to 10km..). And don't even get me started on the stairs there. There's so many... it never ends... just flights and flights of stairs... I'm lucky that my highest class is only on the 3rd floor (about 6 sets of stairs up? I realise typing this it doesn't sound like a lot but I'd like to reiterate that I'm really unfit so I'm basically panting by the time I've reached the top) some people have lessons on like the 8th floor of one of the buildings which honestly just sounds painful.
One of my goals this year was to make some new friends and well.. there's a couple of people I speak to a little? but I said in my introduction that I lack confidence right? Yeah that's not improved much... It's been two weeks and I still barely speak to anyone in my lessons. Occasionally I'll say hello to whoever sits next to me? But then the conversation seems to die out immediately afterwards...
(If anybody has advice for that it would really help 😅.)
I think that's about it for this week? Sorry it was so short but I guess I'll see you next week (or not huehuehue)
