*Update 3*

Week 16 (18/10 - 24/10/2021)

Monday
So this involved going onto campus for my first Digital Production lecture (I missed the previous week) and meeting the person who will be teaching us for the majority of this module. It was difficult to follow as half of us in the group had to go and collect our camera kits from downstairs, 1 by 1. Also most of us only just getting our kit, had dead batteries so couldn't actually do anything with the cameras at this point. It also wasn't the best room for just being talked at as it was a computer lab. I didn't really enjoy it at all but that was more the circumstances at the time for me and I actually found it quite boring.:boring: Anyway we finished slightly early and I headed home in torrential rain (well it is Wales!) and got soaked. I was also trying to get home in time for a parcel delivery but didn't quite make it. :hmmmm: It was handed to a neighbour so I had to wait until I could get hold of them to pick it up.

Tuesday
So this was another day of going onto uni with a lecture first thing for an hour, which went really quickly and was enjoyable. I then went to the library for a few hours to work on an assignment. I then spent the afternoon in a one off guest lecture for an hour followed by my usual timetabled lecture for 2 hours. This was a good day and I enjoyed my day of learning and the topics covered. I was super tired in the evening though after such a busy day so I just watched a recorded tutorial clip to help me with an assignment and started to download software provided by my DSA.

Wednesday
This was a study day and I stayed at home. Apart from when I went out in the morning with my hubby to try and get me a new phone. Unfortunately the store had actually gone (A Covid closure no doubt) so we went to Starbucks instead to cheer ourselves up. In the afternoon I dowloaded some more software provided by my DSA and worked on Excel doing basic calculations and statistics for my assignment. I got very close to finishing but couldn't submit as I needed to clarify a couple of things with the lecturer.

Thursday
Despite a postponed lecture this turned out to be a pretty nightmarish day. First I missed the bus, then the next one broke down, then the train arrived early and I had to race across a lethal bridge from one side of the station to the other. Then when I arrived at uni (only a few minutes late), I went to put in my contact lenses so I could see the whiteboard, only to discover one was torn. Luckily I carry a spare set but it did delay me further. Annoyingly I was about 10-15 minutes late I but always sit at the front and had my pencil case and pad of paper already out, so hopefully caused minimum disruption to everyone else. After the lecture I walked to the other campus to meet my Study Skills mentor for the first time. This went well apart from getting completely lost in the building it was in and there being nobody around to help!! Apart from that I saw a friend I hadn't seen in a while which was nice and had a complete stranger repeatedly ask me for money just outside the train station despite me telling them I didn't have any. :afraid: That evening at home, I managed to complete my first assignment that was due and submitted it 5 days early!! It was a big moment and a nice end to a rough day.

Friday
This was another stay at home study day and I really didn't do very much. I met with my specialist mentor for an hour online which was good and then did very little else other than attend a zoom workshop that had nothing to do with uni. I think I was still feeling very overwhelmed from the previous day, so I didn't have the spoons to study aswell so I ended up napping in the afternoon.

Saturday & Sunday
Again I didn't do any uni work, despite really wanting to, but I did go to a funeral and wake, do lots of housework and entertain family in the house, who were visiting for part of the half term holidays. All in all it was another quite overwhelming couple of days.

Thanks for an intersting update - batteries are a nightmare. My digital camera has rechargeable ones and I always have to check before going out.

Don't forget that if you get stuck with anything someone on here may be able to help

Hang in there and keep juggling ....

*Update 4*

Week 17 (25/10 - 31/10/2021)

Monday
So this marked the start of Half Term but being at university, I don't get a break yet. I went to my lecture and it was actually fairly enjoyable. I actually engaged with it quite well and felt a bit better afterwards. Straight after the lecture finished I went for for a meal out (late lunch) as some of my family were visiting for part of Half Term, so the rest of the day was very much personal 'family time' which was nice.

Tuesday
So I drove into uni today as it was crucial that I get back home promptly after the morning lecture for parental responsibilities. This was fine as I was actually scheduled to have an online lecture in the afternoon. The downside was that I didn't go to the library for a decent study session and procrastinated instead because you know, Half Term, distractions. :woo: Anyway I was reminded why I disliked all the online learning last year. I do focus well in live lectures remotely at home. I took hardly anything in. There was also a mix up with my support and my note taker didn't know where to go remotely for the lecture. All caught up eventually though.

Wednesday
I don't remember much about this day other than I had a Study Skills session online. As it was a 1 to 1 session, it was fine and the only distraction was my child talking to me and my parents bringing me a delivery. We went through some research strategies to help me with assignments and it was good to pick up extra tips to help me too.

Thursday
So normally we have a lecture first thing on site but due to unforeseen circumstances it had to be delivered online. I tried to follow the first hour before having to leave to travel in for the next lecture but I just could not concentrate. I continuously got distracted. :dontknow: Anyway the lecture was recorded so not a total disaster, as could catch up later. So I basically grabbed coffee and a bite to eat on the way in and then enjoyed a 3 hour lab practical on Microscopy. Despite the length, we did so much of interest that it flew by. Aswell as learning all the basics about Microscopes, we got to look at our own hair and also make up slides with our cheek cells. This was pretty cool actually. :rofl3:I also had a bit of a moment. Apparently I decided the workbench and my own personal freshly washed labcoat were too white. So, I proceeded to spray 'Methylene Blue' everywhere with a pipette while attempting to stain my samples on the slides. As a result my labcoat is now white with shades of blue and I left the workbench a bit errr stained. Oops!! Apart from that it was a really fun lecture!!

Friday
So another study day, which basically resulted in me mostly procrastinating. I had a meeting with my specialist mentor, discussed various things that were either going well or bothering me and that was about it. The evening went a bit pear shaped though as I detected some negativity between myself and a friend. I tried to shrug it off but it definitely upset me.

Saturday & Sunday
So I started the weekend quite positively by joining an online coffee morning, but afterwards I just felt really tired and drained. I struggled to find the energy to motivate myself to study and ended up napping and watching TV. Oops. The weather was awful on Sunday and after getting back from the shop, I realised there probably wouldn't be any trick or treating for us that evening. We stayed home and just did a pretend one with some things I acquired earlier in the day. :giggle: There was another negative aspect to my weekend in that I experienced some social drama and difficulties. Unfortunately it was made to be quite personal so having a bit of a social media break now as I don't have time or room for that kind of negativity anymore. Yes it really sucks but what can I do?! I can't control what others think or say about me so I'm steering clear and leaving them to it. :getmecoat:

No half-terms are a bit of a shock - well done for surviving!

Lab coats shouldn't be white anyway - only when brand new ...

Have a good week

Sorry you had to cope with drama and negativity. You are right to focus on the positives.
I am an expert on procrastination. One of the things I do to procrastinate is make lists.
Overall, are you enjoying your university experience at present?

Thank you. I didn't mind the lack of half term too much although it is getting quite tiring now.

Ha ha that's what I thought. It was fun decorating my lab coat in a different colour. :giggle:

*Update 5*

Week 18 (01/11 - 07/11/2021)

So as it's been a little while since I updated, I don't fully remember what I did day to day so I'm just going to give a general overview of each week until I catch up.

One of my modules in particular continued to stress me out and I have decided with almost 100% certainty that I will NOT be taking the follow up media module next year as my option. All I need is to pass it in order to progress onto more interesting (hopefully) things. It's strange as I thought I was going to really enjoy this aspect of the course but it turns out I've really not liked it at all. Hopefully by next Easter it will all be over and done with all being well. I'm hoping to do a large chunk of the work over the end of term break.

I was also presented with my first official and real essay following the practice one I was still working on. I initially felt quite intrigued and excited for it as it was something new but that feeling did eventually wear off, ha ha!!

I also spent another couple of hours in the lab collecting data for another assessment. I was looking forward to this until I realised how inexperienced with a microscope I am. Especially when trying to observe live specimens. Otherwise I managed of sorts.

The rest of the week was fairly uneventful and I spent a lot of it trying to get my practice essay done. I treated it like the real thing so definitely put the pressure on myself to do it properly. Somehow I managed to avoid having a complete meltdown or panic and happily and proudly submitted it before the deadline. It did go in with little time to spare, but I tend to do my formatting and referencing as I go along so it wasn't too bad. It did however leave me with a sense of determination to not leave future assessments to the last minute.

Well done on the practice essay and good luck with the real one If you find a 'cure' for not leave assignments to the last minute will you let me know haha. I had exactly the same determination every time I cut it fine for a deadline but for some reason, it kept happening

*Update 6*

Week 19 (08/11 - 14/11/21)

Hmm what I can say about this week. So it started as always with my least favourite lecture. I tried to follow along but most of it went over my head. I have to say that technology really isn't my thing especially anything to with computers. I was introduced to a new computer program and it was incredibly overwhelming. It was like a '2 hours of my life I wouldn't be able to get back' kind of feeling. Tuesday was fine and I managed a fairly productive study session in the library between my morning and afternoon lectures. I was able to get pretty much all the work done for a practical write up as an assessment submission. I really surprised myself that I started and finished it in one day. As for the lectures, we have had a different lecturer for the morning one (planned changeover in timetable) and I found him to be really interesting. I did like the other lecturer too but this guy was super engaging and encourages student participation during the hour. I think anyone who gets students using their phone to contribute to lecture content deserves a medal. :yep: I also found a second hand textbook from our module reading list for less than £5 and free p&p which was super awesome. :rofl3: We also found out that our first assessment was almost completely marked and we'd be getting marks back any day. Cue me then checking Blackboard multiple times a day from this point onwards so as not to miss anything. Frustratingly they then weren't ready until the Sunday so it was a bit of an anxious wait. My result if you are interested can be found in the spoiler below. Yes I was very happy with it.

The week also saw me attend another 3 hour lab practical. It involved finishing off microscopy work and starting entomology. It was really interesting. I will try and share some of my pictures on here at some point. I then finally got the chance to go to the cinema and see the latest James Bond film with my husband which was AMAZING!!!! I did want to cry at the end though. I loved Daniel Craig's portrayal and will definitely miss his Bond. The rest of the week involved a lecture, a study skills session (which both went well) and an online 'Brain in Hand' training session. Useful but long and quite draining. The week also finished by my 'bargain' second hand book arriving on the Saturday which was nice.

Thank you! The first real one is not going so well. :facepalm:I have been far too busy being distracted and procrastinating. I foresee a very stressful weekend ahead. As long as it's academically productive though I don't mind too much. As long as I don't submit anything shoddy, hopefully I'll be ok. Are you currently studying?
