Hey, so i’ve recently moved into my hall and met most of my flatmates, the problem i’m having is that they’re all partygoers and heavy drinkers and i’m not + i really don’t think i’m gonna click with them. i don’t really like alcohol and i’m a pretty introverted person (social anxiety makes it worse). will i manage? i have uni friends and other friends in the city, but i’m just worried if i’m gonna end up lonely and wanting to go home. does anyone have any tips for someone like me? thanks

my friends are also heavy drinkers and smokers. I'm also introverted most of the time depends who I'm with. i usually sit and watch my friends make fools of themselves and most of the time I'm their designated driver because i don't like to drink and i swim so I don't smoke. but after a while, you will find others that like what you do. i found a lot of people like me sitting alone. just look for one person in the building where it clicks and your good friends all you need is one. You got this fight through.

It is freshers week, they might settle down, but relax, join a society, chat to people on your course, possibly go out once or twice to get to know your flatmates (depending on how dead set against it you are), try and be friendly and not go in with the attitude of your not going to click.
I know what you mean though my flatmates are more club going than I am and I share a similar fear. I hope I've made sense

This was literally my biggest fear about moving into halls. Not being able to drink is a big social disadvantage no matter how social you can be with them. I think you'll be able to manage but I guess there will be that sort of feeling where you feel not as close with them as they are with each other. But dw, the fact that you have uni friends and other friends in the city is good because it will stop you from getting that lonely feeling and it will keep you occupied if things don't work out. But I think you'll be fine, just stay positive and use every opportunity to try and socialise with them when they are sober. I guess during that "nightlife/drinking" environment it's going to be hard to click with them but you've got other times so it's all good. I guess it's just don't force yourself to do something your not interested in doing just to try and feel involved right?
