Hi,

I’m going to be a masters student at Southampton university, however the town is completely new to me and i don’t know anyone there. I have friends in Portsmouth and was leaning towards living in Portsmouth as the rent is also cheaper. The commute time will be 1 1/2 hours. From my course guide it states that I’m only in for 8 hours a week and from what i read online there may even be online lectures. I would be so grateful if anyone could advise me whether it would be worth moving to Southampton.

My commute is 1 hour generally but can be 1.5 hours when there are delays or suspended lines, and I’ve done 2 hours each way before. If you’re sure your commute won’t be more than 1.5 hours and you won’t have to travel too much, then commuting may be a doable idea.
