I was watching TV over the weekend and out of nowhere it made a click sound and turned off. Tried all the buttons, taking out wires, holding the power key etc to no avail.

It's a 50" Samsung.

I don't know whether to try and get it fixed or to get a new TV.

If I got a new TV I'm looking for something that would fall in the £500ish range. Any recommendations? My current TV is from 2018 so would it even be worth fixing something that old?

Yeah, my spouse found and tried that already. I don't know the ins and outs but I believe Samsung would send someone to my house and that would not be cheap.

Tbf in current times it really isn't worth paying to fix a tv unless you paid thousands for it as they are probably cheaper to just buy a new one, pretty much any TV from LG or Samsung will be good, My family all have older models of this of this https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9382279 and they are great and reasonably priced, I've got the 43" one and my parents got the 49" and even the grandparents got the 43" after realizing their 32" was too small!
