i am choosing between “the psychological effects of plastic surgery and ethics” and “the issues faced by HIV patients (social, political and health”
please say your opinions and which one you think is a better option
- i have to write a 5000 word essay on one of these

the HIV option seems really interesting, and there's a lot of areas for you to focus on as you've mentioned. i don't think i've seen anyone else in my year choose a 'taboo' topic for their EPQ, and your selection seems really original.
to be honest, choose which seems more interesting to you whilst considering which is easier to research and write about as it'll probably minimise any extra suffering during year 13.

Out of those two research topics I recommend the second topic. There is a lot of scope within that one subject to focus upon and write about too. But it is totally up to you however.
