Has anyone here done a year abroad to make up a 5 year course?

I'm applying for 4 year masters courses (Physics/Physics and Astro) but I'm also really interested in going for a year abroad since it sounds like a great experience. I'm specifically interested to hear what it's like to do what's essentially a 5 year course, since it sounds like such a long time to be in education for.

I have a couple questions:

Was it worthwhile?

How much did it affect your overall experience of the subject? (Doesn't really matter what subject I'm just interested in the general idea)

How much does it affect your final result at the end of the course?

Is it better to go to a foreign language university or an English speaking university for the year abroad?

Thanks
