Engineering Year in Industry
I am a mechanical engineering student hoping to apply for a year in industry. However I need to start September/Late August 2022 for personal reasons. Does anyone have any experience of companies who began their placements around this time as all the job adverts say they start in the summer?

Some do, it varies with every company; mine started in mid-august.
Although if you only apply to companies that can guarantee this you will limit your options. Most companies want people to be flexible with their schedule but you’ll just have to search what’s available.
