Any help would be greatly appreciated

A mass hangs from a horizontal wooden beam AB of length 2m. The mass is fixed at a point C which lies on the beam between A and B. Given that the moment of the weight about A is twice the moment about B, work out the length AC

What have you tried? Have you sketched it, formed any equations ...

moment = force X distance
moment about A = 2xNm
moment about B = xNm
weight force of mass = acceleration due to gravity x mass
= 9.8 X M Newtons
length BC = moment about B / weight force of mass
= x Nm / 9.8M N
length AC = 2x Nm / 9.8M N
therefore length AC:length BC = 2:1
so 2m shared in the ratio.2:1 is 2/3:1/3
so length AC = 2/3m (0.6 recurring m)

I never really did these. the WJEC syllabus sucks but that's what I got... maybe get a second opinion over here

I got that answer as well, but wasn't sure it was the correct answer as the question is worth four marks. Many thanks anyways!

DO NOT break forum rules by posting solutions

We just give a hint and it's good to ask the OP to post their working so you know where they are stuck

Could you upload your working pls. The previous post isnt quite correct, but as the other poster says, its better for you to work through the problem rather than be given a solution.
