Hello, I am currently taking a BTEC in Computing and IT. I want to study software engineering at undergrad level. I would like to put Cardiff as my first, but on the discover uni website it says that the student satisfaction is 39%. I can easily get the grades to get into the course, and live in the city. How is newport and why is the student satisfaction so low? Cheers

Hi there,I am taking this course in September. Did you take this course? If so what did you think about it? In the open day it was mentioned that there are laptops given out to the software engineering students. Is this true and what laptop is it?Thanks

hello, i forgot the login for my other account.
i ended up going to uwe, but the course here is amazing and the city has a great energy if you can stomach the rent prices and no free laptop.
if you get bored in wales come over for a day trip ✌️
I'll be starting this September also - you'll probably be able to spot me, I'll be the (shudders) old guy on the course. I'm 25 lmao, I'm sure that'll seem ancient to some of you. I think you're making the right choice with ASE, and you'll have roughly a 7-year headstart on me.
If you have any doubts about your choice of course, I've been working for a fair while now (7 years or so), and about 4 or 5 of those have involved software development projects in some (semi-professional) capacity. I've chosen to do this course because it looks ideal for actually going into the workplace afterwards and getting some real-world knowledge and professionalism. The ASE course Cardiff offers appears to be perfect if you're looking to go into software engineering as a career - you'll come out with MUCH more relevant experience than CS courses (not to say CS is a bad choice - just a different and more theoretical focus; I've got some CS modules behind me so talking from experience). I've chosen ASE specifically for the fact it's practical, which I enjoy, but that has the added bonus that it will really look good on a CV. Combine that with a full portfolio which you'll build up throughout your time at Uni and you're really very well set for job applications or developing in the real world.
One thing to note; I don't think this is held in Newport any more. The new Abacws building appears to be where this is held now, much more local to the Uni.
I'm super excited to get started! We're gonna nail this
Hey guys! Congratulations on all your offers! Sounds super exciting
If you had any questions about the course specifically, we've got an Applied Software Engineering student on Unibuddy that would be happy to answer any questions about the course itself. Otherwise myself and Jaz are on this platform to answer any questions you had about university life, Cardiff, accommodation, living in Wales etc
