With the recent news I want to feel safer on the streets - I run very often and get hooted a lot. In the past I have run at night & early mornings when it's dark, but I'd never do that now. I stuck to main roads but because of the pollution I mostly run in the park.

I'm healthy & athletic, very in to fitness, so I can imagine getting in to a sport & really sticking with it and seeing it through. What's the most recommended one though... kickboxing, boxing, martial arts etc?

thanks

They´re all good choices! My sister does taekwondo and enjoys it very much!! I also have some friends that do kickboxing and like that too. You could try and see if you can do a taster day of each of the sports you are interested in and see which you prefer, as that way you are more likely to stick to it and are more likely to enjoy it. If you can´t do the taster day you could also watch some informative videos on youtube about each sport or some classes. Hope this helps!

thanks so much! Do you think classes at the gym would be good, or is this something I should pay for to really get the best?

Judo is ideal for self defence - black belt in it but not done for a few years due to work commitment.

Sometimes you get your local police force that holds classes for self defence but would need to check if yours do this as not every police force will do these.

Look about for who does this in your area and perhaps go along to watch it one night/ day its on. Providing local faculties are open with councils etc.....
The others you mentioned will be useful to you to.

Oh no. I’ve had 5 snakebites and woken up with someone on top of me. If only I had the gearbox of a Vauxhall Astra to throw at them.

boxing and kickboxing are so much fun! but it's a good idea to also join a self defence course/class that teaches basics, like how to get out of grabs, locks, choke holds, how to deal with these situations etc.
hope you find a martial art you enjoy! <3
