'more than just a pretty face'

Hey everyone,

Well this guy who works at my volunteer place said to me the other day 'so there is more to you than just a pretty face'.
Now this isnt the kind of phrase i would expect coming from someone like him or anyone under the age of 30 for that matter and i was just wondering what it was meant to mean. It confuzzled me and I had no idea what to reply. well i did - the first thing that came to my mind was rather flirty for my liking so i just continued doing what i was doing.
But yeah my question is guys, do you ever use this phrase?
and if you do what do you intend it to mean? is it meant to be some sort of back-handed compliment or something?

Trust me, If I said that to a girl, it would mean I really liked them.
it's a compliment. you're pretty and you've got a good personality too. durrr!
i don't think it's that mcuh of an oap thing to say, i've heard lots of younger people say it and have had it said to me a couple of times

Don't take it for definite that he likes you... he may have just been giving a compliment.

I take more than just a pretty face to mean pretty with common sense thrown in

Err it was just a polite expression people use to be friendly, mate.
Just sounds like a friendly compliment to me. I wouldn't read too much into it.

One of those stock phrases when someone does something that shows a bit of nouse.
You must've impressed him with your mind at some point. Shown your intelligence or wit or something. It means there more to you than just your looks - you have a brain too - you're not a ditz.

It's a compliment! hehe.
If you've seen it, it's like the awkward bit in Transformers when Sam says "There's more than meets the eye with you" to Mikaela - he's basically saying he saw you as good looking but now you've overcome the 'good looking but shallow' stereotype, showing he now really likes you

Good luck
It means he wants to get hitched in the Arizona and then start a bookshop together (specialising in classics) obvz....
ha ha you clearly aren't 'more than just a pretty face'. Anyway it doesn't mean he likes you at all in my view.

lol, it's just a compliment (you're one of the lucky few with brains + looks)
Omg. There is not a single soul in this forum that thinks it is not a compliment? It is not a compliment. It is condescending.
