I'm studying at Northumbria university and so far my accommodation live is pretty poor. Basically bully's think they run the place and have made the environment uncomfortable for a majority who won't even socialise anymore due to their behaviour. It isn't just the social aspect that sucks here.

My toilets have had the ceiling tiles fall on top of people while they on the toilet or showering, well as people breaking things off the walls and even stuffing the toilets fill of toilet roll. Also the common room is in a state due to them with broken glass and seats covered in what I presume is alcohol.

Just wondering what could I do because the staff at the accommodation are essentially useless and won't do anything about their behaviour due to them being friendly with them. A lot of people are uncomfortable here due to this group but nothing seems to be done by the staff.

Your situation sounds really bad and not one you should have to put up with.
Your first action should be to record all the bad behaviour, unacceptable conditions and keep a log with the dates and times.
Once you have a convincing amount of evidence, ask those of your flatmates who are like-minded if they would join you in reporting it, in an attempt to get the situation resolved, by adding their names to a letter you intend sending out not only to the accommodation manager, but also to the university principle.

State that you are very unhappy and feel bullied and wish to be moved with immediate effect and see what response you get, I imagine you are not the first to find yourself in this position and they will find you somewhere better if they think you are intending to escalate it further ...good luck.

Wow, that's a pretty calculated and smart response. I approve :yep:

Have you spoken to the Student Union or the main accommodation office [ie not the hall people]?

Hi , I meant to add
At the end of your letter add

P.s. Could you please keep a record of this letter as I may wish to refer to it at a later date.

That should ensure it doesn't get thrown in the bin along with countless others.

Hi,

Sorry to hear this! . People have given very solid advice here, and I would just like to add that you should also look at the terms of your contract because I'm pretty sure they're in breach of some of those terms, and also so that if you proceed with reporting as BrainDrain suggested, you're fully informed on and armed with the knowledge of your rights. As a paying tenant, you have legal rights to a reasonable living situation, and landlords are likewise obligated to ensure that that is upheld. Hope this helps! All the best!
