State symbols

When writing an equation how would u know what state symbol to use for each one I have a test tomorrow and I’m really stuck.
Kl its hard to say but often there are clues in the question.
Precipitate formed = solid state
water = liquid (unless the say water vapour then its a gas)
anything vaporised = gas
O2, N2, H2 are all gasses

Group 7 elements F2, Cl2 are both gasses, Br2 is liquid, I2 is a solid
Metals will almost always be solid (exception being mercury which is liquid) unless they say molten then its liquid.

metal compounds (Hydroxides, Carbonates, Nitrates, Sulfates etc) are all aqueous
although metal oxides are solid

Only other thing is that all acids are aqueous e,g, (HCl, H2SO4, HNO3)

Not all of this may be relevant though, it depends are you doing GCSEs or A-levels, if GCSEs what year??
