Basically - a party took place within our flat, there where many people and ‘things’ got left behind which involved some weed and a grinder, this was reported by the water man who then visited the next day, me and all my flat mates are now being questioned about this shortly, we know the whole “ it’s not ours “ story is extremely cliche and assume we are going to be seen as liars… we have no idea how to explain it’s not ours as we can’t even remember who where at the party, on the other hand we are all nursing students and are extremely worried that we will be taken off our current courses due to have such items in halls of residence what on earth should we do.

I would get some advice from your Union or a Legal Drop-in Centre as soon as possible. If necessary ask for a delay, explaining politely that you were not involved and want time to ensure you’re properly represented.

It's not yours, you don't remember who was there, end of story. They might try to scare you into a confession, don't let them.

It might not be as simple as that if someone else tells a different story, plus letting something like this happen in your accommodation without reporting it may breach some terms of acceptance. Health Care Professionals are expected to uphold high standards and while hopefully this wouldn’t be blown out of proportion it needs sensitive handling

The burden of proof is not on you. They have to prove that it is yours, it wasn't there before you moved in, You put it there while knowing that it is against the rules.
That's like me throwing a bag of weed in to the ER room and expect that all ER staff to be sacked for smoking weed on the job.

Far from the same as throwing a party in your uni accommodation where illegal drug taking is tolerated.

Tbh as long as it wasn't in anyone's room, nothing is happening to anyone. They're not going to reprimand all of you (assuming this is a flat of like 10+ people).

We woke up on the Morning after the party had taken place , the water man had already been and gone and we had then see what was on the table, we then disposed of it and assumed he hadn’t reported it as we only received the letter notifying us on the report 8 days later.

This is what we thought originally however the letter we received says that if there is no outcome, basically if we deny it and they don’t whether it belongs to us or not then it will be taken to stage 2 automatically.

Get advice from your student's union. This won't be the first time this has happened and they'll be able to advise you how to approach it with the university.

Yep. And if you confess to something you have not done, you end up on a list of known junkies and they get to search you and your place whenever they want. Be adamant, they have nothing useful and they know that they have nothing useful. Without your confession it will go away.

We can't guarantee that, sadly.

I agree with the advice to contact your union. This is what they are there for.
