A-level Geography Study Group 2022

Welcome to the A-level Geography Study Group! :woo:

This is where you can chat to others students taking your subject as you prepare for your A-level exams this summer

What can I do in these groups?

Almost anything! If you need help with a certain topic, want to rant about something you are struggling with or just want to support other students who are trying to prepare, this is the place for you. We want these to be a useful place for everyone no matter what you're looking for!

What can't I do in these groups?

Asking or offering copyright papers is against our site rules, and so is taking conversation off-site to do these things. Any posts doing this will be removed. That's the only rule :naughty:

Ice Breaker questions if you want to use them!

> What exam board are you on? (Vote in the poll as well!)

> What bits of the course are you feeling confident with?

> What areas are you struggling with a little?

> Have you found any resources online that have helped you prepare?

Specifications:

AQA - Geography 7037

Edexcel - Geography 9GE0

I know you must have heard this 1000 times before already but if you're struggling with exam technique just keep powering through as many past papers and markschemes as you can!
Please could someone suggest good AQA geography resources for A level for past papers and content
Hi everyone!

Hope your studies are going well! This is just a quick reminder that the exams’ additional information is due to be released soon, so keep an eye out for updates about which topics your exams will be focused on.

What topics would you like to see come up this year? Is there anything that you hope won’t make it onto the paper? Do let us know!

Best of luck with your revision!

i would say the biggest thing is cover and revise case studies, they are the major thing that will boost most people from like B's to A's and A*'s. This could be either done through flashcards, by naming the location, what happened in the location, a couple of stats and thats it. Its also a good idea to know multiple case studies for one topic such as Earthquakes (Christchurch 2011, Italy, Chile ,Nepal Japan 2011 and BAM and California) but only note down more details for larger case studies like one for HIC and LIC and the rest just name them and date them in an exam questions, because if its like a 6 marker on earthquakes you dont really want to go in detail about the case study but you would in 12 markers and anything higher. This would be the biggest tip. Another one is you should understand the concept of how coastal features or how the water/ carbon cycles works and in your mind or paper think of what would happen if one factor is occurring more like in the water cycle more precipitation (what effects will it have on the cycle) deforestation in carbon and what are the reasons behind a certain landform eroding quicker (geology, lithology, wave type, rock type, cliff plane, type of erosion/weathering etc) . I dont know if this helped but let me know if there's anything specific you don't understand or need tips on. I do edexcel for Geography but i believe this would apply to any exam board. If there's anything else that you need tips on let me know i can maybe send some examples if you don't understand anything I said

My NEA wasn't about regeneration but happy to try and help!

Also here's an exemplar (full marks) NEA from AQA about gentrification if that would be of any use https://filestore.aqa.org.uk/resources/geography/AQA-70373-NEA-G.PDF
Thank you a lot, it had a couple of things which are definitely going to help me
Does anyone know what this means for the global systems and global governments section?

3.2.1.3 International trade and access to markets
'Analysis and assessment of the geographical consequences of global systems to specifically
consider how international trade and variable access to markets underly and impacts on students'
and other people's lives across the globe.'
Hi so i’m up to my data presentation/analysis section and i’m trying to think of ways of presenting my data and analysing it

i’m doing it on the success of regeneration in an area and my data collection involved questionnaires and an environmental quality survey aswell as secondary data.

Does anyone have suggestions on ways i could present this and some talking points?

(i made a mistake and left my coursework til last minute and it’s due in a week)

hii,
im also doing regeneration of an area for my NEA and for questionnaires i made a couple of pie charts on excel and for my EQS i plan on hand drawing a radar graph. It depends what your hypothesis or aims are for what you need to write up on, but make sure you answer them in a suitable way, describe and explain each data presentation you've done and to get higher grades must include percentages. I have a question as well since we seem to be doing a similar topic, have you done any statistical tests and if so which one did you do. i'm asking because i need to have one and i'm lost on which one to use and how to do it because most people who have done it either have 2 areas they've used and they can compare so its a lot easier for them to do a statistical test. If there's anything else i can help with i will try my best (im also rushing my coursework too ahhh i left it last minute :frown:)
