Hi, does anyone know by any chance if the deadline for written work is up to Thursday or includes Thursday? Because something’s happened meaning I can’t get my evidence until tomorrow and am wondering if it’ll be too late?

Hi, I'm trying to complete the cover letter for my submission of assessed work, but I don't have access to a printer. Would I be able to digitally fill out the cover letter, or is it required to print it out and fill out the cover letter in writing?

i filled it out digitally and uploaded it as a pdf file
I'm in the same position as you atm but it seems that it can still be submitted on thursday

Before the Coffee Gets Cold!! What a gorgeous, thought provoking book. I know this isn’t a book club thread but I haven’t come across anyone else who’s read it before. What did you think of the ending?

Apologies for the late reply! It's been a busy couple of weeks.
Gosh, I thought the end of the book was so heart-breaking but really beautiful. That last story was especially bittersweet, I had a lump in my throat the entire time. I'm definitely tempted to pick up the sequel, his writing was just so lyrical. What about you?
How did everyone find the ELAT?

yeah was pretty good I think. The theme was definitely nicer than in previous papers eg dance, parting, food, and the clear effort to include more non-canonical/ diverse writers was refreshing.

It was okay. I almost can’t remember it, it was like I blacked out for the exam. I finished 8 mins early (idk why, on practice papers I’ve only finished 5 mins early max). 😂😂
Did you manage to get yours in? Didn't send mine until 8PM last night due to technical issues so am panicked it was too late!!

It was alright. I struggled for time which is unusual for me, didn't get a chance to read through what I had written at the end, which is what usually comforts me as I can see what I've written is coherent. Time will tell!
Does anyone know when we can log into the results portal and access our ELAT results? Also - any idea about when we will hear if we got an interview?

I thought it was easier than the practice papers - not sure if it actually was or I got completely the wrong end of the stick 🤣 but don’t feel too bad about it, though also ran out of time to read over it at the end which was a bit gutting. Nothing to do but wait now ig! Good luck everyone!!
Hi i’m Amber!

I’m currently on a gap year and decided to reapply this year as I didn’t give Cambridge a go last year!

1.My A level subjects were English Literature, History, RE and EPQ, and I got A*A*A*A in that order.
2. My personal statement focused on Gilbert and Gubar’s theory of social castration and discussed its prevalence in texts such as Wuthering Heights, The Bell Jar, Chaucer’s The Clerks Tale, The Color Purple and Othello, as well as analysis of political and philosophical thiught within George Orwell’s 1984, and Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of being.

My extra curriculars include being my schools history captain, volunteering as a TA in a Year 11 English Class, winning my schools prize for English Literature two years in a row, being a “peer mentor” and being on my schools eco committee!

3.9999887665

4. Since it’s over now i’ll ignore this question!
5. I did an open application and was allocated to Girton!
6.I chose Cambridge simply because I prefer the English course to the one at Oxford
7.State school

I’ve also applied to Durham, Warwick, St. andrews and Liverpool. I’d love to make friends with anyone who’s applied to similar unis to me or anyone who’s also on a gap year!

Not sure who's supposed to start this thread (and if it's even 'official'...), but, with applications in, I thought I'd kick things off.

1. A-Level subjects & predictions
2. 'Supercurriculars' & personal statement
3. GCSEs
4. ELAT prep
5. College & reason
6. The inevitable question: why Cambridge? (in other words, why not the 'other'...?)
7. State/ private/ grammar (more optional)

I imagine this will become more of an ELAT discussion thread in the coming weeks, but would be great to get to know each other!

1. Economics, English Literature, History. A*A*A*
2. Ngl I’m not super comfortable talking about what I discussed in my PS. I did a couple of MOOCs, a summer school, etc.
3. 10 9s and an 8. Tbf I doubt GCSEs are going to be viewed in the same way for our year because most of us didn’t sit them.
4. I did a lot of past papers. So glad that’s over now.
5. Jesus, I really liked that there were a lot of academics there who specialise in 20th century and American literature. The college itself is very beautiful. I liked that it seemed a little more diverse and less overly traditional. They are a wealthy college, they do well in the tables, etc. People keep taking the mick out of the name, haha.
6. Probably the most basic question they could ask at interview. 😅 I like the course.
7. Private.

Edit: I also applied to St Andrews, Durham, UCL, and Birmingham (only one I have an offer for rn 🙃).
I did an AS in Thinking Skills last year and got an A.

Hi guys! I'm a current second year doing English at Christ's College, feel free to ask me any questions. Good luck with your applications!

What is the workload like and how do you balance it with your social life?
Hey guys!

1. English Literature, Religious Studies, Geography (and EPQ). Predictions A*A*A*(A*)
2. Just like most other people, lots of reading, lectures, courses etc
3. 9999999887 (but as most people have said they may not be as relevant due to covid)
4. No point answering this
5. Trinity- great facilities, good intake number for English etc
6. Preferred the course and the general vibe tbh
7. State
