Maintenance loans

I’m sorry I’m so confused so I hope this question doesn’t sound stupid

When they say they they lend it three times per year, do they split up the maintenance loan? so if u get 9k u get 3k per term.

Or does it mean you get 9k to account for the whole three years?? So 3k per year at uni?
You have to apply for the maintenance loan every year of study, therefore if you've been offered a 9k maintenance loan it will be split into 3 x 3k.

You'll get the 9k (Split into 3 separate payments of 3k) each year of study.
