People that get "psychologically damaged" by internet trolls were probably nuts to begin with. But these are very crazy people we're dealing with here : these people think words are violence and that burning down a city is peaceful

Of course this is just another way to go after people that have the wrong opinions (eg right wing people) whilst ignoring or let's face it supporting actual criminals...

The Times ran a poll on the article reporting this story. 58% supported the proposal, 42% did not.

How do you quantify psychological damage ? This doesn't make any sense and most trolls don't do anything of that sort.

Agreed, don't think it works. Even if it was somehow applied well trolls would just start using better anonymity measures...

It's like the porn ID law that they tried to introduce. Totally unworkable, let alone stupid in it's own right.

I guess it’s good to punish trolls where their behaviour is very very extreme - not our lovable brand of TST troll on TSR of course

Young healthy people are terrified of catching covid thinking it will be an automatic death sentence. They have clearly been psychologically damaged by the scientists fearmongering.

I don’t agree - the young people I know and work with are mainly not worried about catching Covid as they think of it (rightly) as a virus that is highly unlikely to kill them. And they see other young people recovering from it all around them as it is rife amongst secondary school pupils at the moment.

I agree, this pertains to the very insane, who shouldn't be kowtowed to and should instead be referred for a psychological evaluation.

No, why would it? Very few people consider the legal position before committing a crime (hence why jail has never, and never wilkl be, a deterrent to people. Especially in this case where they tend to be children who are incapable of really thinking about the long term consequences of their actions and generally think itll never happen to them.
Either way, hopefully it sticks it to a few bullies. As another user noted, shame it doesnt apply to bullying in general though. It would be nice to see some of them get whats coming to them, especially the ones who de facto murder their victims.

Absolutely. I came so close to killing myself when I was a little kid. Those people get away with destroying lives and no one gives a ****.
