If you do your autumn exams in 2021, can you choose between teacher assessed grades or exam grades when you get your results on results day?

yes, whatever is higher

Do you mean retakes? Whichever grade you get in the retake, you are not given the choice to choose between that and your previous grade. You are given the retake grade.

These aren't classed as retakes though ...
I asked if they were retakes because some autumn exams are those.

YOIu can ask to have your summer certificate changed to show your Autumn grade if you do better in the Autumn.

You don't have to ask, it happens anyway. The Autumn grade gets displayed regardless.

You get a Summer certificate and you get an Autumn certificate. You can ask to have the Summer certificate changed to the Autumn grade if you want to, so years later, it will look like a normal Summer sitting.

That's not what the teachers at school told us.

https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/consultation-on-arrangements-for-an-autumn-2021-exam-series says
An exam board must issue a replacement certificate to a student showing the higher of an autumn 2021 or summer 2021 grade in response to a request from that student. We will not require the exam boards to provide replacement certificates for students showing the higher of the summer 2020 and the autumn 2021 grade.

This sounds contradictory. In the first sentence, it says that the exam board must issue a replacement certificate. Then the second sentence says that exam boards are not required to provide replacement certificates.

It's all in the dates - have another look. 2020 grades can't be altered, Summer 2021 grades can IF the candidate requests it.
