Cambridge - hard, medium or soft subjects

Hi everyone!

Can anyone give me the link of Cambridge University where they make a list of hard, medium and soft subjects at A Level and put them in groups? I think that they have it as group A, B or C but I'm not certain. I've tried searching their site but can't find this list. :frown:.

Your help would be appreciated - Thanks in advance.

It's a Trinity College only list, Cambridge doensn't have such a blanket policy, only a small list of subjects they believe you should only take one of, which is here:

* Accounting
* Art and Design (see also Architecture)
* Business Studies (see also Economics)
* Communication Studies
* Dance
* Design and Technology (see also Engineering)
* Drama/Theatre Studies
* Film Studies
* Health and Social Care
* Home Economics

* Information and Communication Technology
* Leisure Studies
* Media Studies
* Music Technology
* Performance Studies
* Performing Arts
* Photography
* Physical Education
* Sports Studies
* Travel and Tourism

It is also true that there are plenty of people here who took one of that list.
They state that the following subjects provide a less effective preparation for their courses, but it should only be a real problem if you have 2 or more from the list below. (There are of course exceptions, eg. Art and Design for Architecture applicants, Design and Technology for Engineering applicants etc.)

If you're doing A-levels, you may want to avoid the following:

Accounting

Art and Design

Business Studies

Communication Studies

Dance

Design and Technology

Drama / Theatre Studies

Film Studies

Health and Social Care

Home Economics

ICT

Leisure Studies

Media Studies

Music Technology

Performance Studies

Performing Arts

Photography

PE

Sports Studies

Travel and Tourism

There's a different list for IB students though.

I think the best thing to do would be to contact the Cambridge Admissions Office and see what they say.

Any combination of those subjects would be fine unless you were applying to Trinity.

I'm not sure about that...better check with the individual college, ie. they may not officially publish their own list, but may follow the Trinity guidelines.

Should be fine for English, Law, SPS (not PPE...though I think its name changed recently) or something like that.

There's no longer a course called Social and Political Sciences although I'm sure what you refer to is "Politics, Psychology and Sociology"
