silk factory aqa eng pap1 question 2

english paper 1 silk factory q2 attempt 1

When describing the physical state of the garden the writer states that the garden is an overgrown mess. This conveys the idea of an unclean and unorganized setting. This highlights the idea that the garden has been neglected and not been looked after for a long time. The visual imagery of the overgrown mess has connotations of being overbearing and intrusive which suggests its unwantedness and dominating presence over the other features in this old garden. This idea is reinforced when the writer mentions mass of nettles, showing how the extensive number of nettles has become a very noticeable element in the garden. Therefore, the writer is exploring how nature can become overbearing if not contained and an unnecessary nuisance to handle once reached a point of overgrowth.

Furthermore, when describing the tress in the garden the writer states the trunk of the tree was snarled with the tangled ivy. This conveys the idea of violent tension between the ivy and the tree. This highlights the sinister and tempered nature of the tree and its dislike for tangled ivy. This metaphor conveys the malicious intentions of the tree. It also has connotations to an authoritative creature showing aggression to its opponent which implies the competition between the two natural elements. This idea is reinforced when gnarled growth threw long twisted shadows this shows violence and the overwhelming nature of the garden trees. Therefore, the writer is suggesting how nature can be deceptive and how nature uncontained is nothing but a twisted two-sided creature. feedback pls i really need help improving
