I would like to become an A level history teacher, and the careers advisor put me in confusion. To be able to teach A level you only require a bachelors degree on the subject you want to teach and a PGCE, right?

Right. (There are other methods of getting qualified teacher status other than a PGCE but yes, you need a degree followed by some form of teacher training.)
