If you get accepted into med school do you have to go straight away or are you allowed to tell them that you want a gap year?

Depends on the med school, the chances are you would be expected to start at the year that you applied for.

After all, if you wanted to take a gap year you could have stated this when you applied (ask for deferred entry).

You can ask them (assume you have already applied otherwise you just request deferred entry on the application) - they don’t have to accept your request as it would depend on number of others who also want to defer. Some unis maybe more flexible and certainly they usually have a cut off date for applying

When you apply for medicine, do you get accepted first and then ask for gap year or do you say you want a gap year BEFORE you apply ( etc in the interview or application)

Before you apply.

It's called a "deferred entry" usually.

P.S. Is there a problem with the answers above? It's against TSR rules to double post.
