Rejected but offered a different course?

I applied to Leeds to do a BA in Geography and they rejected me. (cry) However they did offer me a place on a different course BA Environmental studies.
Found this all very confusing as got offer through track, which updated showing me i had a place (but i failed to notice that the course code had changed  ). Just wondered how common this was? I've never heard of anyone being offered a place on a course that they never applied to.

Thanks

Manchester decided to put me in the mechanical engineering foundation year
I was like wtf
They said I wasn't elegible while Cambridge puts me in the pool, very confusing
The university should send you an offer about the new course that they offer you (i.e. Environmental Studies). I don't think they would bother changing it on UCAS track.

They have sent me all the info. Thats how i found out that i had been rejected from the course that i applied to.
Got the offer through track, showed up as normal apart from the course code wasn't the same as the course that i applied to (which i failed to notice). So i thought that i had a place on the course that i applied to.
Oh well, one out of six ain't bad.

My friend was rejected for Medicine at BSMS, but got an offer for Neuroscience at Sussex.

Seems fairly common, especially for the competitive courses.
It's good that uni's give you an offer on a similar course. Not much uni's do that.

A few of my friends were in similar situations, I think it means that they want you but they don't have space for you but do want you to come to their uni. There are only limited spaces so take it as a good thing they want to offer you somewhere still

My bro didn't get into biochemistry in Leeds, was offered Mineral engineering instead. Is now a BEng(Hons) (probably far more useful and lucrative than doing biochem) and is currently in yr 2 of a PhD!

That is amazing.

Why? It's just like being pooled to another college at Ox and Camb, but with courses instead.
