Is it true you cannot apply for an instrumental award if you are a choral award holder?
For the violin the set piece is a movement from a Debussy sonata - not sure which key, think it might be Gmaj

Sorry, but I had a bad experience once with Syrinx

Oh ok - I'm not familiar with the piece in any case.

Did it say whether u have to play scales
I don't remember it saying anything about you playing scales, but I suppose they could ask you a couple - doubt it though.

don't be silly. I only play the flute because my school ran out of clarinets. :sigh:

The flute always seems so girly....
The horn piece is Morceau de Concert by Saint-Saens. Im quite surprised actually- I did expect something like Mozart or Beethoven, maybe a little of Strauss 1 or something!
I think I'm going to Guildhall now anyway.

I hated playing that piece but I can see why they use it - checks your agility, high range, tone quality, hand-stopping and whatever else. TBH it's an awfully dull piece though.

well maybe they'll have changed it by next year! my master plan appears to be working- Cambridge are letting me change from 2005 to 2006 entry, and Guildhall are letting me go there for just a year, even though I'm doing English at Cambridge. I'm so pleased!!!

oh, wow, way to go - how did you pull that one? That would be brilliant....

*slaps self* you want to be a vet, you want to be a vet, you want to be a vet

OK, I have recovered from my James Galway fantasy. Just.

I just asked very nicely! well, I haven't completely confirmed it with Cambridge yet, and I think Guildhall are banking on me loving it so much that I won't want to leave after a year! Clare College were massively oversubscribed for English this year anyway- 81 for 7 places- and they also like their English students to take gap years, so that probably has something to do with it. Oh i really hope it all works out!
