Why do we feel more tired after having a lie in than getting up earlier?

So occasionally I decide to have a lie in for maybe and extra hour or two later than than getting up early. You’d expect after an extra hour or two of sleep you’d wake feeling more refreshed and alert but I’m finding I’m more tired and sleepy after my lie in. Is this normal? Is it maybe better to go to bed earlier rather than sleep longer in the morning?
