How do teacher apprenticeships work? Do you just sit as an assistant teacher alongside the real teacher? And how long would you have to do this for? And once you complete this, what is the next step in becoming a teacher? I think I might want to become a secondary school maths teacher. Thank you.

At the moment you need a degree first to do an apprenticeship. You will be employed as an unqualified teacher at a school and train both at work and also off-site (e.g at a university). Successful completion leads to QTS, which means you are a qualified teacher. It is basically very similar to the School Direct programme but aimed at recent graduates rather than career changers.

I would suggest looking at the Get Into Teaching website first to find out more about the different routes open to you - https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/ways-to-train
