I've seen websites that recommend stuff like CoPE, FSMQ etc to get more UCAS points. Does this have any truth - dos it actually give you UCAS points?

Yes and no. All the things that can get you points are here: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator

But....
The better universities tend to make offers based on grades (e.g. AAB) rather than points so acquiring lots of points from miscellaneous qualifications won't help.
Even though these qualifications do get you points, they may need to be relevant - an engineering course may not be prepared to count the points from Grade 8 in Dance for instance.
You can't count points from different qualifications in the same thing, so your FSMQ is useless for UCAS points if you also took A level Maths.
Some universities will only count points gained during sixth form, so taking Grade 7 trombone in Year 9 would not be any use,
