Mutley Plain is charity shop land, but there are plenty down the bottom of town. Vintage shops, haven't found any yet.

There are no vintage shops, as far as I know... And yes, there are a few charity shops on Mutley Plain. There are also loads on Cornwall Street, near the Pannier Market. You generally have to be up for a right hunt to find anything good, though!

Sadly, Plymouth is not a sartorial haven; I believe we were voted the worst dressed town in Britain. :frown: There used to be a vintage shop called Some Bizarre on North Hill, but it's been gone for a couple of years. I find that Mutley Plain's charity shops are a LOT better than the ones in town, and often have some really cool stuff in. The closest thing you'll get to vintage is Goulds army surplus store on Ebrington Street! I don't think there's anywhere on the Barbican, although there ought to be.

Gah, Plymouth is rubbish for unique clothing! I recommend you spend a fiver or so on a train to Totnes; there is the most fabulous vintage shop near the top of the high street that you could actually get lost in- it's stuff of dreams, I tell you! And Exeter is also MILES better for shopping.

Hope that's some help, if little comfort!

Vintage clothing in Goulds? Vintage army clothing, I got some hiking trousers there and my boyfriend got his 'terrorist' coat there, but i don't think that is really what the OP is looking for. I love totnes, its a bit like Glastonbury, makes me think if home. But yeah, wander along to Mutley see what you can find.

Some Bizarre! Aw, I used to love that place!
I agree that there should be somewhere like this on the Barbican... I also agree on the comment about Exeter/Totnes. Much better for shopping for things like this!

Can't really add anything here... charity shops are your only hope, I love going up to Mutley Plain on a Saturday and having a good rummage. Even if I don't find anything it's fun.
Ebay was my best friend before I left for the vintage heaven that is London though.

Found this old thread and thought I would try and re vamp it
I love vintage clothes and accessories! And looking forward to having a look in the markets and charity shops! Anyone got any current suggestions for any clothes / accessories etc which are that little bit different? I like the high street as much as the next person but get a little bored at times of wearing the same stuff as everybody else...

Ebrington Street seems to be the new place to get vintage clothes in Plymouth... Or at least it was last time I visited (last year sometime)

Thanks, I'll check it out
There used to be a nice vintage stall in the market, no idea if it's still there, though. With the charity shops, like anywhere, it's a bit what your luck's like.

Not clothes wise, but for accessories, there are some nice antiques places down the barbican, where you can get some nice jewellery.

Totnes is worth a try too, but I disagree about Exeter. They have more "designer" shops, but I don't know about any vintage shops there.
