I made a post about only fans and someone on the post said that sex work is not “real” work.
Do you agree or disagree and why?

i disagree, sex work is definitely real work. it might be a slightly unconventional way of making money compared to what some people are used to, but that doesn't mean it's not real work! sex workers are awesome and i have so much respect for them

If you're meeting someone's needs and walking away with agreed money... yeah that's pretty much work (regardless of tax status, law or opinion really)

They're exchanging services for money so by definition it is work. What is "real" work (note scare quotes) is an entirely different social/cultural construction and so just because some subset of people don't think it's "real" work does not change the fact that it is work by definition.

Of course, whether it can be a career is a much more nuanced question and I think these days generally not - the bodies needed for that kind of work now are hard to sustain in that very long term, and also age definitely does play into how much business someone could get.

Yep- no different to any other kind of work.

Builders work their bodies to build buildings
Ballet dancers work their toes to oblivion
Statisticians destroy their minds at a desktop
Prozzies bust their loins

In all cases something is being worked hard in exchange for cash.

Anything that you are paid to do is work. Prostitution is of course work.

When people say that Prostitution is work though, what they're actually saying though is that you should respect it. This is illogical as it makes the assumption that all work must be respected.

Yes, it is paid work.
Also 'real work' that has the potential to earn the most desire or popular of sex workers vast sums of money.
Depending on their skillset, appearance, health, luck and client following.

Quite a few friends work in the sex industry or used to do so and have all accumulated vast sums of money from selling intimate sexual services.
However the facts that the sex industry is profitable, has been for thousands of years and continues to be very popular with many millions of service providers & clients does not mean that sex work should be viewed as an admirable profession or one automatically deserving of any respect.
Nor that this line of work should be considered as something suitable to recommend teenagers to consider as a possible career or to add to jobcentre plus listings.

Of course it’s “work” doing something for money is work.
That doesn’t mean it’s safe. The sex industry is appalling in its treatment of the “workers” it’s degrading and dangerous .
We’ve all got a body and if you choose to allow it to be violated in order to eat and heat your home, then I’m gutted that you are in this position.

define work?

if you define 'work' simply as someone who gets paid in exchange for a service then it is work; likewise then drug dealers and arms dealers and human traffickers would be considered doing work :awesome: same with those illegal weed and cocaine farmers. pretty sure they all work really hard for their money.
