Does anyone know why the Civil Engineering BEng courses in Scotland are 4 years (I don’t think they are sandwich) compared to 3 years in England?

Most Scottish degrees are 1 year longer than other parts of the UK due to differences in secondary education, i.e. they can enter school with Highers qualifications which are considered roughly equivalent to AS Levels.
