So I'm looking into studying a mental health nursing BSc at ARU. Noticed that the course claims to be NMC accredited, but on the NMC website it is listed as "not compliant with standards post-2018" but the uni course is still listed as an approved educational institution. Wondered what this actually means in the grand scheme of things and if this will affect job prospects if I were to study here?

Thankssss

The NMC updated their educational standards in 2018 and universities are supposed supposed be updating their courses to line up with this as of January 2019. Some students will have finished their courses on the pre-2018 standards (I did - I qualified in Setember 2019) and pretty much all students have either started on new syllabuses or been transferred onto them at the end of an academic year - problem being, that each university has to have the new versions of the course approved by the NMC prior to rolling them out. Quite why ARU are not compliant with 2018 standards but still an approved institution, and how this affects entering the NMC register, I don't know.

Hi chlxe02,

Thanks for asking this question. I've double checked with the faculty and our course is compliant with NMC standards but their website isn't showing this. We've been in touch to rectify this issue with them directly and hopefully it'll be up-to-date on the website soon and you'll see us on there

All the best,
Megan
