Close the borders for 12 months to eliminate Covid?

(even if it's inconsistent and people disagree with it).

No. People are disagreeing with you because your political geography is wrong.

This isn't mere pedantry. Like most people who want simplistic solultions to complex problems you refuse to accept the complexity exists.

Yeah I know and I totally get that but the point still stands (even if it's inconsistent and people disagree with it).

Didn't scroll down to the wiki link I see.

This one?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles

That's about the British Isles not the British Ilses

That wiki page says
The British Isles are a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean off the north-western coast of continental Europe, consisting of the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Inner and Outer Hebrides and over six thousand smaller islands.[8] They have a total area of 315,159 km2 (121,684 sq mi)[5] and a combined population of almost 72 million, and include two sovereign states, the Republic of Ireland (which covers roughly five-sixths of Ireland),[9] and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

But where is the link to the British Ilses?
Can we get this back on topic please? Not sure why a simple fact of geography needs this long a debate but it can stop now.

If its simple whats the answer?

A smidge of arbitration would be helpful from the helper staff as its fairly fundamental to the topic.

The United Kingdom consists of many different islands, as you well know.

Now please be quietly incredulous

I don't care about political geography, just geography in general.
The idea of closing the borders for 12 months to eliminate a new variant is a ridiculous one. I hope everyone can see that now that 100s of cases of omicron have been identified in the UK? By the time we know that there is a new variant it's already too late as infected people have already been travelling between countries

Okay, so let us address your proposals:

UK borders need to be closed for your next 12 months

With tens of thousands more troops and people being murdered by terrorists on a daily basis, they never managed to close the land border with the Republic of Ireland. How are they going to do it now?

No ferry’s no flights

Do you know what proportion of UK food is imported? Over 80% (lower published figures of around 45% work on the assumption that eg tea is British food because it is processed in the UK even though not grown here). Even with severe rationing and "dig for victory" we only got our food imports down to around 33% of food consumed during WWII.

Do you realise that no offshore island is self sufficient in goods and services. Most have only limited medical provision. That is true even for a place as large as Northern Ireland. Even the modest bureaucracy of a barely implemented Brexit emptied shelves in NI supermarkets. NI relies on Scotland for highly specialist medical provision.

How do we rotate troops around the world and supply them?

What do we do about the thousands of Brits temporarily abroad at the moment any restrictions are introduced.

Ultimately even a remote agricultural economy like New Zealand wasn't able to slam the door so as to keep Covid out.

Perhaps so, but the UK doesn't have legal jurisdiction to block entry as it doesn't control all of it.

We’re not in the EU so we can do what we want now.
