Funny because if I recall last time, the Nightingale hospitals were barely used even though plenty of wards weren't 'in use' as everything was shut down, because they still couldn't be staffed. I can't see how they will be staffed any better now when plenty more staff are off sick this time and you'll be losing staff once that vaccine mandate kicks in. In reality they are hardly going to end up being used, hopefully because they don't have to be but also because they won't all be staffed to a safe capacity.

'Managed' is one way of putting it.

Yes they were hardly used in England but like you said they closed down all non essential nursing to use the staff for it.

Won't be any better but if they were used then the staff will be found one way or another..... Thousands of students will assist in them alongside minimum qualified & agency staff & army. As they won't let people die uneccessely as it's not in UK government interest to do that.

Like the one built in Glasgow they eventually used it for to outpatients appointments before switching it to mass vaccine hub then handed back for the recent climate conference as had a contract till xx date,

As a medical student, I look forward to being called up to paid service. Especially considering that most considered the early graduation of final years last year to no be anywhere near as effective as they hoped it would be.

Yes you would probably be asked to sign up for paid work like what they did last March/ April 2020 with all the second & third years nursing students from every field to help out on wards full of covid19 patients. They were paid band 3 bottom for it over 4 months or so and counted towards there studies.

How many thousands of thousands of HCA staff been employed for to work in the mass vaccine hubs / covid19 testing sites which I imagine they will call upon to assist in a emergency.

Hopefully it won't get as bad as last year but nobody can predict what's going to happen this time around. Let's hope the vaccines will keep things down.

Apply restrictions for what exactly? And on what evidence?

Indeed. It seems data is just coming in.

The new variant is milder than delta.

Agree with you on this.

Boris been to slow since day one of this covid19 virus.
Now the English will see why rest of UK devolved governments did what they did themselves about covid19.
Boris hesitated doing things few weeks back when others UK devolved governments did something about it.

All Boris can say is get your vaccine as it will help but look at the UK daily figures increasing with cases plus hospitalisation and ICU beds refilling up again.

Maybe a lot tighter restrictions is required like only going out for work / school / college or university / shops etc etc between certain times of the day and stop mass gatherings and big sporting crowds ( although they keep saying it safe outside ). If it's safe outside then how come the virus managing to spread like wildflower...!! Testing more as well.

One person has died today from Omicron variant of Covid

Boris Johnson needs to be acting on this and address the situation. Ban gatherings and bring back covid legislation for those who breach it.

We can't have another lockdown and have people dying all over again from Covid. It's too much.

BORIS DOES NOT CARE! He will scrap restrictions and fully open our borders because all he cares about is his OWN POPULARITY!

Fantastic! Just as it should be. Let's get back to normal, get mingling and all gain natural immunity as far as possible
Something to think about these are deaths of influenza 2018 and 2019. Many are from seasonal flu, which most elderly have flu jab for.
