University asking for my passport for proof of nationality even though I'm british?

So I got an email from Bournemouth University saying "We need you to send a picture of a valid passport to verify the nationality said on your application." On my application, I wrote British and there was an option to put any other nationality so I put Italian, which I am. I don't understand why they need my passport as they can see my address and my GCSE grades and surely should think "ah yeah they are a Brit".

I know they are checking if I am an international student and what not, but it is clearly written that I am BRITISH (unfortunately). Born and raised in the UK. I just don't want to pay the international student fees haha

Your university is following protocol. They have done nothing wrong.

As above - this is just protocol. Why are you so desperate to assume bad faith here, and read a narrative into this request that doesn't exist?

But none of my other friends have to do it except my Peruvian friend? It is because we put down dual nationality?

Perhaps it is due to having dual nationality, but it's not racist btw.
Yeah, I get asked for my passport all the time, even though I have an English name, and an English accent, it's normal and nothing to be worried about.

I'm aware of that it was just unexpected, i got offers from other unis and they didn't mention anything haha
Yeah, it's perfectly normal. The information on your app is just self declared so if there if there is anything on there to suggest that you might be an overseas payer, they are well within their rights to request evidence.

The alternative is to make you an offer as an overseas fees payer, and let you try and sort it out afterwards.

Every uni will have its own process. For mine, dual nationality by itself would not be cause for concern, but we'd be double checking everything else on the app to make sure.
it is not a big deal. just show them and get on with your life.

If you haven’t got a passport tho? What else could you provide?

Covered in the other thread you bumped - it depends why it's being asked for. E.g. if it was for confirmation of your full name or DOB, then a drivers licence or birth cert would probably suffice.

If they want evidence of nationality then you need to ask what alternatives they will accept if your passport is pending.
