Exam centre didn’t apply for special consideration

I missed 2 of my exams due to COVID and self isolating. My exam centre was aware and they had all the evidence about it inc. NHS test results etc. I got my A-level results back and I’ve completely failed because they didn’t apply for special consideration and the 0s from the exams I couldn’t attend are counted among my marks. I’ve contacted them and they’re saying it’s my fault for not telling them to apply for it. I’m so confused as I gave them all the evidence needed and assumed they would apply without me having to explicitly tell them or that they’d at least bring it up if they needed anything more from my part. I’m in tears right now, absolutely devastated. I won’t be able to apply to uni with these grades. Please help!! What should I do?? Is there anything I can do?

It looks unlikely you could get some form of grades now, as your exams officer at your centre, should have applied for special consideration in November 2021.

It is possible to apply for special consideration even at this late stage - I've done it successfully on a couple of exceptional cases in 15 years*. You need to try to do this through the exam centre so talk to them first and see where it gets you.

*Edit: Once when it became clear that a candidate had had a truly awful experience we hadn't initially known about and once when I screwed up and forgot. I always find it's best to be completely honest to the exam board about this and they are very good at making sure the candidate is not disadvantaged by the exam officer's errors without making the EO feel any worse..
