How much should I have saved before uni

Hi there, I’m looking to go to university in September as a first yr undergrad. Roughly my first year student finance is coming up to £4K. I’m stuck between choosing Greenwich university (Central London) or Brunel University (Outskirts of London) so I was wondering how much roughly I should have saved before I go in September?
UK students in London get a maintainence loan ( for living costs) of up to £12000 a year ( it depends on parental income but the top amount of loan is approx £12000). If you are awarded less the idea is that parents 'should' aim to make it up to that amount, so that's a good guide. Many people live on less. Both those unis are London maintainence loan. one thing though, Greenwich definitely isn't central London. it is South East London. Closer in than Brunel but not that much and probably similar living costs. The international students office at the unis will advise you .
