My undergraduate course is due to start this month. I am confused about when to apply for student finance etc, as I have saw somewhere you should apply before your course starts, but I have also saw you can not apply till March 2022.

I hope you find this helpful.

According to the student finance website, it says you can still apply for funding up to 9 months after your course start date. It says that if your course starts between the 1st of January and the 31st of March then you can apply by the 30th of September after your course has started.

I do however strongly recommend that you call student finance services - they can provide better and more definite information regarding your funding and for your peace of mind.
