Ok this is most stupid and obvious question I've asked on here probably but I'll ask it anyway:

Are you allowed to go to the toilet during A-level exams? I.e do they have to escort you to one if you ask or do they have the right to flat refuse (I'm not trolling I'm being legit serious as school is saying nah mate in this school you're not allowed to be escorted to the loo during the exams unless you have medical reasons).

Update: I've been given an exemption and will be allowed to do the basic humane thing of being able to take a piss in a toilet during an exam. I'm quote not usually allowed to go unless I've got "medical issues" i.e you need to have medical issues in order to usually be able to go to the loo in the exam in my school and that "the expectation is that students should go before the exam and be able to hold it for 2 hours but because of your extra time and things we put a message/notification to the invigilators saying that you can go to the loo during an exam and that you don't have to worry about this no more".

I mean it's still pathetic that I got an exemption but any other student who wants the same will be denied that opportunity because quote "if anyone was able to go to the loo during the exam then everyone would start asking to go". Not happy about this but I'll take it. The school is very lucky that they didn't say no to my request because I would as Muttley79 has suggested taken things way further (parent would have had to get involved and argue the case) or as ROTL94 2 says, hit them with the emotional manipulation.

I've not heard of people not being allowed, I think you have a right to pee, this sounds sketchy?

Yes you are absolutely allowed. You don’t need a medical reason either.

In my school you're not allowed as quote "if we allow you/it then everyone will start putting their hands up". Like I don't care not being able to go to the toilet during my exam when it's not my time of the month but when it is I care especially when most of my exams will be close to 3 hours. Got an exam clash too (assuming that the exams don't get cancelled for the 3rd time) so they can't actually be legit and be like you'll have to hold it for 5+ hours, surely? Was able to go at GCSE (was in a different school) but I can't now...

They can't prevent you from using the bathroom, what are you meant to do, go on the seat?

"Students who leave the examination room temporarily (for example due to ill health or in order to use the bathroom) must be accompanied by a member of staff." from Cambridge. Even Cambridge lets their students out every now and again!

If you're a person who menstruates, then you have a medical reason, they don't need to know if you're on your period or not. Stress can affect periods, I'm really unlucky that I get mine when stressed, exam season torture!

Contact the teachers, say that while I don't believe it's illegal, it's immoral, and it's frankly insulting. You need to be able to sit an exam without fearing to take a drink, what on earth is this? If you're a person who menstruates, that's a medical reason. Best of luck!

Can you go to the toilet during your Gcses or A-levels or other exams.
Yes, though try to go before the exam starts. If you need to go to the toilet during the exam, please raise your hand and wait for the invigilator/examiner to come to you. You will be escorted to the toilet by an invigilator/examiner.

Escorting is to ensure you not cheating apparently.

I just go the toilet more often when I'm on my period that's all. Other than that don't care about having to hold it in when I'm not on it. Will probably have to complain to the school about that (I don't want some medical exemption because I don't have or need one, I just want to be able to not having to hold it in for 3 hours when it's the time of the month), this is literally the only reason why I'm getting worked up about this, other than that I don't care about said rule.

My school is saying no though. Of course I'll go before the exam but chances are if it's the time I'll have to go again anyway and that's the issue. Obviously I know that my question is stupid as I already know that the answer is yes, my problem is the school is saying nope you can't go.

What if you go into the toilet stall and pull notes out from your shoes?

well, if you're on your period then you can't exactly not go. just tell them before you do the exams that you have to go to the toilet if you need it... if they won't let you then you'll have to just say you have a medical problem and don't discuss it further.

You could flush the notes when you are done, or put them in the sanitary bin so there would be no evidence.

Surely if you have a clash, you'll be sitting it separately from everyone else. Also there will be breaks between exam clashes
