I study Biological Sciences at Lancaster University- are you looking for books to read before going to Uni?
In terms of books to get AT University, they should recommend books to you. This will be different module to module, and its often not worth buying books.
Personally, I've only bought the one text book; and I've barely used it. I tend to either access text books online, or more often than not read papers.
In terms of reading BEFORE university, its probably worth just reading into subjects that interest you. Often the higher level stuff is quite difficult to understand if you haven't already had the lectures to back the knowledge up.
Essentially there isn't a must read before uni. Work hard at A levels (or any equivalent), read into some topics that interest you and you'll be find for university.
Hope this helps,
