Technically every time you think, you're talking to yourself.
Do you mean talking out loud to yourself?

Is it really a sign of insanity? I don't think it is, if you say to yourself aloud 'I need to buy pasta from the shop later' how would that be mental illness? If you're talking to a hallucination then yeah, probably a sign of mental illness.

I talk to the imaginary friends I have. They are imps and give me advice and I answer. I'm probably not mentally sound though.

What makes you thjink its ill mental health? Plenty of people talk to themselves, its just a way for them to work through the day. If youre hearing voices in your head and talking to them you have a problem but just chatting ir providing your own commentary, slightly eccentric but nothing particularly bad.
